Possible solution for CEL with Catless DP's

Guys, my friend made these for me and swears by them. It's an o2 simulator together with the microcats. I am hoping to install the dp's this weekend and report back on the CEL issue. Let's hope this works so I can go back to him. If it works I can ask him to remake these, but he already told me he would need a number of us ordering these to make it worth it to him.

If they work he won't have to worry about orders.

Nope. In fact the micro cats you posted are made here locally. They work well on American muscle cars but the M5 ECU is much more advance.

Nate, since the CEL is a given at this point with the catless DP, would it cause any additional problems if we were to just plug the sensor ports on the DP and remove the oxygen sensor wiring from the harness? I've read that people have replaced the stock leads with longer leads from a different car model, so I assume those leads can be detached from the main wiring harness?

You installed both the micro cat and the angled O2 simulator together?

I was thinking of also trying the same thing (angled O2 simulator + mini cat)with a catless downpipe and a high flow catalytic converter (100 cell) downstream in the exhaust to get rid of the smell...

Did you install the washers as well? If so, how many and where?

I just spoke with the AMS guys and they claim that this setup is the only one that works and does not trigger a CEL.

I admire everyone's effort to get rid of the CEL. Although I would love mine to not be there on my dash with my catless downpipes, I gave up a long time ago on trying to get rid of it before a proper ECU tune comes out. Like Nate said, the S63tu DME's are too advanced. We will not be able to trick it. I stuck a black sticker over the CEL on my instrument cluster and I tell you I always forget that I even have a CEL until I see you guys bring them up on threads like these. Like I've been saying since DAY 1, wait until ESS comes out with their tune. They will remove the CEL and the Top Speed Limiter, it's what they do!

Ya know its just sad they never sold the speed limiter removal version of the 5 in the states. But I've also never heard of anyone with that package say what the m5 speed is truly capable of. I know this has nothing to do w this thread but talking about the limiter removal made me think on this.

I had this identical thought.

Also, on my GM vehicle, I had an O2 simulator that plugged into the O2 harness. It sent the signals to the PCM and no O2 sensor was involved.

I know the DME is quite a bit more advanced, but I certainly think an electronic engineer could easily replicate the signal needed to be sent back.

Example:

Anybody think building something like this is an option? Or contact a company that makes these and with enough interest they could build one for us?

Why not just get some quality catted DPs? You are not seeing that much additional benefit I presume with catless. The catted REALLY ramp up the turbos fast. There have been issues with rattles, CEL, odors, etc. on these AMS pipes. Gluttons for punishment? I run nice quality double walled (just like OEM) catted DPs and you would never know they are there except for the performance boost.

You got a link for your Catted DPs please??

We have the same issue with our Gas turbines and seal gas analysers. If there is no flow accross the analyser it gets posioned and reads full scale. I reckon something similar is happening here. Lambdas need a flow to measure. Micro cats wont work for long unless you put a flow across them. I think you would need a feed and return so exhaust gas passes over the micro cat. Not that hard to make but like been said beofre until they can be mapped out Hi Flow catted is the easiest way to go.

Excellent points! Has anyone tried doing the O2 simulator by itself? I could see where maybe the micro cat doesn't get enough flow up into the recess. The micro cat's initial "filter" may be too restrictive and the exhaust seeks the path of least resistance and goes back down stream. Maybe the O2 simulator allows enough unrestricted flow up to the O2 sensor to get a reading but not enough to make the DME sense emissions issues.
