Brake Fluid change for CCA Track Driving classes
Hello folks,
Is it madatory to change the brake fluid 6 months prior to the Track Driving classes organised by BMWCCA? I am taking my 2014 M5 which hardly has 2.5 k miles on it ... and the class is on this Sunday/Monday... i am not sure if i will get a appointment at near by delaership.. Is it just precautionary step or is it a real must? Thanks in advance for the replies Last edited by ImperialBlue; 10-09-2014 at 10:03 AM.. |

Heck no. They only recommend it for those tracking their older BMW's. Yours is practically brand new. No need to change it unless you want to upgrade to a better fluid, which I do recommend if you are going to be driving on a high speed track with heavy braking. The standard brake fluid will boil pretty fast and thus brake fade ensues.

I definitely recommend getting an upgraded brake fluid. You can order RBF 660 and just have someone install it. No need to do that at the dealership.. Since the boiling temperature will be much higher, there will be much less fade.

It's not an option. In NJ you must have brake fluid less than 6 months old. If there's any water in it and you cook the fluid (which can happen on any track) you could lose the brakes completely. Don't even try it without changing the fluid. Yes, any shop can do it.

Yes, really. I've seen numerous stories of "new" cars hit the wall hard after losing the brakes. A little bubble of water becomes a big bubble of steam. Especially in a heavy car with so much horsepower, not worth it. CCA won't let a car without a fluid flush in the past 6 months on the track. I believe that is also the rule at NJMP in general, except for "lead and follow" sessions behind the pace car.

I am going to the same event, but only going Monday. I will look for you. I will be there in a Sakhir Orange F10. My instructor is Larry. You may want to talk to Vic about this. My car was a 3/2014 build and I am getting my fluid changed just to be sure. -Mark |
