Advice on CCB wear

Question:
How many miles do you have on your M5 (w CCBs)?
In CBS, what's the mileage estimate for remaining life on F/R pads?
How many track days?

I am looking at a used M6 GC with CCBs. This car has 38,000 miles on it.

The rotor wear indicators checks out just fine. Full circles, looks just like the manual and I'm comfortable taking ownership of the rotors.

However, I checked the CBS and the front pads says needs changing in 22,000 miles and rears says 13,000. Which is way lower than expected.

Sure, I can change the pads for $2k or so, but I'm concerned that this car's rotor wear is also on an accelerated schedule as well. I ran vehicle history at a BMW dealership and shows no brake service performed other than fluids.

Any advice or thoughts?

Thanks, but not trying to debate pros and cons. Trying to gather user data

First is that if you are going to track, I would not recommend a CCB, just a steel brake.

As a point, race teams do not use CCB as it is expensive to replace and steel brakes are more than enough. Its only benefit is unsprung mass.

Theres not much experience BMW has on CCB so we dont know how good or bad they are really, but I bought my car with CCB because I plan to use it as a DD and most likely it would last the life time of the car.

That car you are planning to buy, was driven hard. Those rotors would last a very long time if you drive it regularly, even hard on the street. But if you track it, 3-5 sessions, you will wear them in a year.

That is why we do not use CCB in the track.

Are you sure you are willing to take ownership of a car with an accelerated CCB wear? if yes go for it.

I have 6500 miles on mine and it says 80000 miles brake service.

Thanks, agreed on all points. CCBs makes more sense on a street car.

6500 miles and 80k CBS basically brings you at the same pace for 40k car and 20k CBS.

I just checked mine this am, 6700 miles, FRont 80k miles next service and rear 90k miles next service.

But based on my experience, and I have/had 3 cars with CCB, it would last longer if you just drive it like a DD.

86k vs 60k seems like a big difference to me. Like >25%.

Curious about updates on this topic. How are the cars with higher miles doing on the life of the ceramic brakes?

BMW describes the CCB as "lifetime assuming normal wear conditions". So you should never be in a position to replace them unless you exceed the mechanical lifetime design of the car (or if you beat the hell out of it on a closed circuit lol).

I don't trust what iDrive says about the replacement schedule on these pads. I've personally seen examples where it varies dramatically for whatever reason. As an example, my car has 34K miles and says I don't need pads for another 35k/19k (front/rear respectively), whereas my best friend's M6 GC has 36K miles on it and says he needs front pads in 8,000 miles. Yet a visual inspection of the pads shows nearly identical meat left on the pads. ::shrug::

If you want to know with absolute certainty, find a shop that has the Proceq tool or find a place to rent one. Our CCBs support the tool. You'll get an exact measurement of each unique rotor (numbers on the rotors indicate measurements when new; tool extrapolates wear as such).
