Who has gotten CEL from AMS or any other catted downpipe?

BIMMERPOST

I am asking this because I am now thinking about getting the AMS. I called and spoke to them about CEL and inventory. They have no inventory and they are having to make a change to the position of the O2 sensor back to where it used to be or somewhere closer than where it is now so that there isn't a stretch and it's not covered by the heat shield. Apparently they moved it to where it only is exposed if the heat shield was removed.

So the real meat of the convo was that even with the cats, CEL get's thrown because of higher volume of oxygen looking like bad cats to the system (or so I thought I understood) in which case I expect P0421/2. Apparently the real testing for catalytic converter presence is done by ODB code and not by emission testing. What a load that is, how do you verify emissions by checking some stored data? Silly since you can easily measure the exhaust but I digress.

Net is that some people get CEL and others don't. Who has catted, aftermarket downpipes and did you get a CEL or not and if so, which one(s)? I am particularly interested in AMS as they are what I want. I would appreciate input from others as well. Oh yes, there is also apparently a spacer that can be installed below the O2 sensor that might help with the CEL.

Go with Agency Power. They have the same exact catalytic converter as AMS (Brand, Model, Cell count, part #), but their design has always incorporated the stock O2 location.

I've placed a substantial amount of miles on them, zero CEL. Talk to James at Vivd Racing, he can get you a great deal.

Thanks! That one is $1000 more but no CEL would be worth it if the AMS is iffy.

I have AMS catted downpipes and no CEL since install 5 months ago (knocking on wood). I also bought the Bosch extended O2 sensors since some had theorized that the stock ones when stretched might be causing the CEL.

I am running catless, no cell, because PP-Performance programmed it not to come on.

I'm in the same boat. Don't want CEL. Looking at the AMS, but saw they did revise the O2 locations...

It's a great thread, if we can get some considerable sampling we could make some data out of it....

Other downpipe buyers going to weigh in? RPI? etc....

The catted DP is a way off since AMS doesn't have any in stock and is moving the O2 sensor.

I talked to Dinan today and the DTronics should arrive here next week. I ordered the Vbox today so I am going to wait until I do some Vbox runs before doing the mods. Probably not until week after next for the mods.

AMS has IND's F10 M5 right now and the catted downpipes with the new sensor location will be ready to ship next week.

We've had no CEL issues whatsoever with the catted Agency Power downpipes.

ImpetuousRacer up above, as well as another local client have had them on their cars for many, many miles. To my knowledge, no other clients have expressed any issues at all with CEL.

Regarding pricing, the AMS downpipes have a list price of $2999.95 once the catalytic converter option is selected, so pricing is somewhat similar with the AP falling in at $2800 list.

wow... Tuners may hate or love you
At least for me it's interesting since what you are doing to compare before and after (using vbox) is exactly what everybody wants to know!
Good job sir!

I picked up .2 sec and 1mph in the 1/4 mile , exact same location and DA from SS catted DP's on Vbox in my M6 CP . 11.4@128 mph with , vs 11.6 @ 127 without , -2k DA 0 slope stock Michelin PSS @ 30 psi MDM on mash and go . I think all DP 's catted or no will be approximately the same a solid gain .
