need guidance - rear tire choice for max grip
ok, so when it comes to tires, im definitely a NEWB. I've always stuck to MPSS, in fact I just got a new pair of Rears just 5 days ago. However, This saturday I will be attending and participating in a roll race event. I've done this before and when taking off WOT in second gear from about 35mph, the MPSS simply dont stick. Massive tire spin, and I lose a lot of speed until I shift into third gear - and even in third gear I still lose a little traction. Im at 650-670WTQ and probably around 630-650WHP.
So A friend of mine has a pair of Mickey Thompsons (305-30-19). However My car runs stock 20"wheels. Im thinking of trying my friends' tires but I am looking for 19"rims. Here are my questions: 1)Is it ok to run 19"Rears with 20"fronts (stock) 2) I am now looking for 19"rims to accomodate these tires. So another friend has 19"rims that he used on his e60 M5. Will these wheels work on the 305-30-19 MT Tires? What am I suppose to look for in wheels to make sure these tires fit? Rim width of maybe 10 or 10.5? thank you! |

in another note, if I cant find good wheels to try these on, will my MPSS grip a little better if I do a quick burnout before the rolling race?

No street tire will hook at those wtq levels in the low gears. AFAIK, only the oem 19" 345m will fit on our cars.
If its just straight line acceleration, you can run 315/30/20 toyo r888r....will bulge a little on oem 343m, or can do aftermarket wider rims. I'm running these tires now and can actually hook part of 2nd @ 710 wtq. |

This is why I go back to my original question. I have two e60 M5 rear rims available for the f10s rear. 19". Can I fit a pair of Mickey Thompsons 305-30-19 if the rear e60 m5 rim is 9.5 inches wide? Last edited by epiphanyray; 11-28-2017 at 08:44 AM.. |

Have you attempted to mount the e60 rims on your car yet? I'm not familiar with the e60 but I believe BMW went from 12mm to 14mm mounting bolts from the e60 to the F10. Plus the possibility of the brakes hitting the inside of the barrel of the 19" e60 wheel. You did mean to type 305-30-19 didn't you?

So e60 wheels will not work (bolts are different from our f10). So, I found another set of rear rims. THey belong to a 2016 M3. Stock rims are 19" 9" wide. My question is, how about my mickey thompson 305 wheel on a stock rear rim from an m3?
Remember this is ONE event - roll race, straight line. |
