My M5 rear ended... With dealer plates still on. That sucks.
Damage doesn't look awful. But my exhaust has gone cross-eyed.
New bumper, sensors, looks like I need new mufflers? Anything else down there I should be aware of? It's pretty bent in between the exhausts. Curious to see what the repair bill is going to look like. Anyone know the best body shop in the Seattle area? I'd like to see everything back together in showroom condition. Edit 7.20.17 The plot thickens.. It's a 3 car collision on a highway... so [toyota] -> [honda] -> [m5] -----------> [traffic] The car placed at fault was the toyota at the very back. I was notified by my insurance company that the fault vehicle has very low coverage and it may not be enough to cover repairs for everyone. The insurance representatives are repeatedly encouraging me to make the claim on my own policy and pay my deductible - which they would try to recover later. That seems... strange. I have underinsured coverage I could tap in to. It's only $10k (hmm turns out this underinsured thing is pretty useful) Appointment at a shop for an estimate tomorrow morning... Edit 7.21.17 Got my estimate from the shop. About $7,000 as of right now. They didn't include the wiring harness that needs to be replaced (they couldn't find the part number in the system) and anything that can't be seen like shocks... Edit 8.8.17 I had to catch a flight on business to DC and didn't really get a chance to follow up on the shop advice I got here.. I did drop it off at at Queen City Auto Rebuild in Redmond, WA on my way to the airport. They have a really good reputation for working on Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Porsche so I think it's in good hands. I just flew back in from some time off in NYC but have to jump in to another rental since the M5 is still out. The shop did a tear down and found a few wires to replace but it's all under $8k at the moment. About the insurance... So, the driver at fault has roughly $10k in coverage and that has to cover 2 cars. The Honda is probably a total loss. I've been told that there's now an injury reported... And with the rental car my claim nets probably close to $9,000. Good news... they're paying for everything so far. The value on resale is the only thing that's got me a bit pissed... I'm going to look in to getting a diminished value report. Only there's just not much cash left to go around. If the report comes in at any significant value - I wonder if there's an opportunity to switch it over to my personal collision coverage and just pay the deductible. I know that it does not look bad to you but.... I'm willing to bet that the latch where it meets the trunk is not aligned any more which means that the rear support ( structure ) is bend inwards. Rebar is done as well, I would have check for kinks at the frame area. BMW and MERcs don't bend easy, but at the same time ( german ) metal stretches and compresses nicely in case of even minor accident. Wish you luck, hope you are OK, ( thanks to the seats )

Thanks.
My PDC is going a bit crazy at the moment. I noticed there's a stripped wire hanging out from the bumper so hopefully this won't fry a computer. Updated the the first post... |

When my M5 got totaled I had to make a claim on my own insurance because the guy who hit me had no insurance and was a deadbeat. My insurance tried to recover from him, I don't know whatever happened with it. But I was still listed as "not at fault" so my insurance rates didn't go up or anything. It basically just allows your car to be fixed quicker because you don't have to wait for the other people to pay for it. I don't know if the rules between Florida and Washington state are different so you better check that before you file. If they can't recover then you'll be out your deductible but should still be listed as "not at fault."

Sorry to see... always sucks to have something new and exciting get damaged.
At least it is only on the plastic stuff so undetectable once fixed (no metal body repair). Body shop will replace rear bumper (check the reinforcement bar behind) and likely replace the exhaust (you may try to work a deal to get an AM exhaust.. will be cheaper than OEM) 'Dealer plates' threw me off... its a 2013! |

I feel your pain. Attached below is my M5 that was rear ended. The good news is that your M5 will be fixed and good as new soon enough.

Doesn't look to bad, hopefully that's true. 7k sounds about right for what I can see. That wire that runs along the bumper is for the sensors.
I would see if they could pick up an aftermarket diffuser. Would be nice. As for filing claim on your own, that's pretty standard with most insurance companies where a situation like this happens. Glad you have underinsured. Good luck!

Sucks. Hopefully you can also claim diminution in value. The accident will show up on your CarFax and you will take a hit on resale. Make sure your insurance
Company pays you for the DIV. PM me if you need a good company that can provide you with a DIV report. It should be a $10k to $20k DIV. |

I've used RnR with good results in the past. Last two small repairs were with Gilman Autobody with equally great results and much faster repair time.
