Does amaze me that some think its their right to defraud bmw and complain when bmw protect them selves- Allmotor is on point, bank on a gear box or engine money stash and you can play - otherwise don't complain on the forums or to bmw that your tune car went pop from doing burn outs and racing. Its a mega strong motor that will take a tune but a muppet behind the wheel beating on it would kill any car.

haa that is kinda funny , we all / most of us have modd's some heavy and some lite ascetically and some Beastly !

i've nvr heard of one forum member in all 10-15 year's using these forums for knowledge / friends / fun /general info say hmmm this failed on my car ya know what ima take it on the chin cause im tuned / modded up !

there is no defrauding as i see it , it's a gamble yes but obv it's one were willing to take cause having cool serv advisor's and tech's always helped before and what can be repaired w out issue was cause the dealer would wanna make $$$$ ..

From what i can see this is going or at least alotta people these days have been speculating w the new online shit that bmw is running having a cool s/a or tech won't mean shit anymore ! soon as the tech plug's the car in if it's reading any altered parameters it'll stop the tech in his track's and that's when the trouble start's !

Seem's as if quite a few of our member's are and have been flash tuned for quite some time myself aswell my 13 was def in happy mode and i currently have a 2016 w
412 miles sitting in the garage for which i stock piling part's for then was planing on geting a stage 2 bpm to get her to ultra happy mode !!

Im quite concerned at this new software , flagging , BS and have put my modding plan's on hold for the moment cause if this info is true then we are all in for some serious shit and i'm lil confused about the lack of concern from other forum member's !

just my 0.02 cent's

Good on you allmotor and good on those who get away with it, but complaining because BMW want to be buisness smart??

If you had a buisness and had people taking what they are not entiled to, i.e coming in late/going early yet claiming they worked longer or taking goods - are you entitled to put up CCTV or a clock machine - hell yes - would works complain, yep... but who cares the buisness is in the right.

I think this is a storm in a tea cup... nearly all manufactures can and do check for mods and driving habbits (tracking, burn-outs, launches etc) when assessing a claim... a hundred launches... and a blown motor plus mods... what would you expect as an out come, if you get away with it great, you get knocked back... suck it up.

Same goes for the engine - people have blown 30-40 motors and taken it back. BMW is obviously aware as it's an expensive RMA especially with NA labor rates.

The S63tu is a strong motor when maintained and tuned properly. I have pushed 800-1000hp for 75% of the 30K miles I have on the car. Runs like a champ. Most of the people who have blown their engines don't know what they are doing... sorry!! I can imagine this motor (mine included) getting weaker over time but for it to actually blow-up, it has to be user error or some component failed under load (injector etc.).

My $0.02 if you want to keep the car and not just turn it into Carmax and screw the next guy... is plan on getting a spare engine. Think about it.... what's the price of a 700-800hp car? Here we have a 4-door sedan that can easily push 750hp reliably.
Unfortunately reading posts on various threads, I sadly believe you are in the minority when it comes to "pay to play", but I do applaud your ethics.

I'm not complaining, and neither should anyone else. At the end of the day... this is going to single out the BEST tuners in the industry. I'm sure that's all BMW is trying to do at the end of the day.

Tech. advances, and so should the people that tinker with it.

You know shit was going down hill when you have dudes on the forum, publically discussing how to unlock/patch DME's with Chinese hardware.

If BMW really wanted to prevent anyone from modding/tuning their vehicles, they could have easily done that, but they won't, simply to keep that small margin of enthusiasts busy, and interested. They just needed a way to filter out the bad seeds, and this is how they're doing it.

The amount of tunes and tuners out there was starting to get out of hand. The survivors will be: DME / Autocouture, BPM (after merging with Mission Performance), Dinan, and BMS.

Or, as stated in the F80 thread:

This WONT HAPPEN.

Reason: None of the tuners you mentioned above will know how to crack the BMW DME... they surely didn't for the existing version. It was BR in Europe that cracked it after significant effort. They will sell the solution to EVERYONE under the sun to recoup their investment. Each of these tuners paid anywhere form $5K to $10K depending on the HW configuration to get the base files and knowledge to edit. In fact even the OBD-II capability came from another person (I won't mention who that is...).

Nothing against these tuners... and they have done a good job to extract a safe and consistent map for these cars. However, it takes considerable HW and SW knowledge to actually crack the DME.

There is a difference between performance tuning and HW/SW decryption.

BMS is the only tuner who has actually developed HW/SW - however that is on an add-on device and not the DME itself.

@TheHouseWon Merging? No idea what you're referring to but we will never merge with any other tuner. We've got thousands of tuned cars in 50 countries around the world so it wouldn't make sense to merge with a much smaller tuner.

Fasta data has been transmitted for nearly a decade, this is nothing new. BMW is likely taking a closer look to prevent paying for claims caused by modifications.

Regardless of this new dealer debacle, we've done 5 M5s this week alone, so it doesn't seem to be stopping those wanting more power. I know I wouldn't be able to drive mine without a tune, just feels lethargic.

@allmotor This is simply not true either. There was nothing to crack other than getting the security passwords for bootmode access, and the password reading device has nothing to do with BR.... I think you have a partial understanding here with some misinformation. We've had the factory data for this car since 2011, but there was no password reading tool available until 2012/13ish, which is why you didn't see any tuned prior to that. Tuning a file and flashing it successfully to the DME are two mutually exclusive things.

We have the factory data for the G series cars also, just no security access to the new Motorola processor yet, same deal as the M5 was in 11/12 with the TC1797 processor. Also notice the lack of offerings for the non Tu motors with the Siemens MSD85 TC1796 processor for which the security password tool still doesn't exist.

We are saying the same thing - the ability to write (pass-key etc) needs to be figured out. The actual performance tuning is an entirely different thing and all the major tuners have been doing a great job with that.

However the enablement takes significant effort and whomever cracks that will want to sell that broadly.

My point is that the world won't converge to the 2-3 tuners mentioned unless they figure out how to access the DME and don't sell that information.

Correct - and we are normally one of the first to have this ability due to our relationship with the developer(s) who sell these tools to others -

We were the first to offer end user OBD flashing of DCT, and the first to offer the OBD flashing of F series after patch.

BR didn't make the password tool to my knowledge - so this makes the majority of your post off beat.

That said, I look forward to full OBD flash support in the future

Porsche do it to and are harder on any mods when it omes to warranty than BMW by some margin. Put the wrong tyres or exhaust on a Pcar and see how you get on...

What I really meant was an aggressive hostile takeover of other Socal tuners where your business grows infinitely larger in a consolidating marketplace
