Gintani Tune Review (724rwhp on 110)

I just got my car back from Gintani and I am at a loss of words! Alex (owner/tuner) knows a lot about our cars and it's evident the moment you start chatting with him. I was originally just going to have my downpipes ceramic coated and installed there but after lengthy conversations I decided to have him tune my car as well. So they ceramic coated and installed my Evolve catless downpipes, installed my MSR intake and changed out my spark plugs for NGK ones. With the mods installed, it was time to start tuning.

My baseline dyno (dynojet) showed 525 rwhp and 531 rwtq. I then had a conservative 91 tune done (thank you shitty CA gas), resulting in 607 rwhp and 597 rwtq at 20psi. And for the grand finale, we did a VP 110 race fuel tune that led to an astounding 724 rwhp and 693 rwtq at 23psi! I picked up my car with race gas in it and I can't stop smiling. The power is insane, drivability awesome, and between the MSR intakes, catless downpipes, and exhaust noises Gintani is known for, the sounds my car makes are out of this world. Every one of my "car friends" that have ridden in it so far can't believe this is a BMW. The only weak point on my car right now are the tires...These Michelin Pilot Super Sports might as well be OE on a Prius so R888Rs are on the horizon. I should have them on in September, giving me plenty of time to prepare for Shift S3ctor in October.

And switching between fuels is easy with the tablet you can opt for. They loaded both of my tunes onto this little windows tablet that I can keep in my car and use to flash either my 91 or 110 tune. So I never have to worry about running out of race gas and getting stranded somewhere which is a huge relief.

While I could keep going and going, I can't stand being away from my car for this long. I have some long drives ahead of me this weekend so expect more info later. Until then... enjoy this dyno graph and vid

i'd be wary of running racegas, that's a whole lot of power, that your car is not equipped for. have them do another tune for 91, they should be able to get into the 620-640 range. 720 wheel is asking for trouble.

Yes, it's a flash tune.

Why do you say it's asking for trouble? I've seen a handful of people on the forum running higher power levels with a stock bottom end. Unless you are referring to mods such as clutches and meth?

Those are nice numbers and a neat feature to switch between tunes

Look out for clutch slippage at those VP110 wtq levels, and if you switch to R888Rs...maybe rear axles.

you dont even have turbos. You are asking too much of that car to be pushing 720wheel. and besides, you wont be putting 720 down on the road w/o clutches. So essentially that number is nil.

720 WHP will be hard on the clutches as well as the axles especially on the R888's.

I assume you're aware of the risks and issues that can present themselves at these power levels, if not all you need to do is read through these forums to get a better idea.

I was on the fence about tuning until I saw several first hand examples of blown engines where the owner has had to foot the bill for a new / rebuilt engine. Very difficult, if not impossible these days to get this covered under warranty by BMW as they can easily detect a tune / drilled DME's.

Some may argue we're still in the good old days when SA's looked the other way but I will disagree as BMW NA will not.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from staying at these power levels just saying to be careful ... seen damage at much lower power levels.

I'm aware of the risks with being at this power level but I'm willing to take the chance. Yeah, some people have issues with less power but some people have made even more power on a stock bottom end. I know the sky's the limit with regards to what factors come into this so I'll just enjoy my baby, upgrade all the supporting mods I need to and maintain her as best I can

22,000 miles. So far the clutches aren't slipping This thing is a complete beast. Went to dinner with my fiancé last night and trying to drive it slowly is quite a feat now..haha.
