Smile Is an M6 with CP really faster than an equal M5?

I know something's are driver dependent; however is an 2014 M6 just "automagicly" faster than an equally equipped 2014 M5? AND, if so why? I'm speaking 1/4 mile and out of the hole for say the first 300'. I think there both equal in top speed because of the engine software.

Power to weight ratio should answer your question.

As an old drag racer I do understand Power to weight ratio. I'm guess I just wish I would have done a little more home work before my purchase... Next time an M6.. Just somewhat disappointed the salesman did not have me look at the M6.

Care to share what you found disappointing?

Hello bimmer-boy,

The salesperson knew I wanted performance above all in a four door M series. I did ask to look at an M5; however the salesman should have IMHO said, "well if you want performance you should look at the M6". I would have purchased an M6 to get into the 11's in the quarter mile as apposed to the low 12's with an M5. However that said if fishes were wishes we'd all have a fry... AND I am very happy with the M5. So in a couple of years I'll purchase an M6.

You are not referring to M6 GC, right?
If we are talking 2 door, then it really comes down to what your original goal was, 4 door with more space or 2 door coupe= lighter.

There are a number of M5's in the 11s so I am not sure where you are getting your info from....

M5 can get to mid-11s stock.

That said the 4 door M6 won't out drag the 4 door M5 because it doesn't have a power to weight advantage. Only the M6 coupe has the power to weight advantage.

Also if you want to win drag races your better option would be an Audi RS7 or Mercedes CLS63 S-AMG with 4Matic

Given the data points we've seen the 1/4 times are very similar but the M6 traps considerably higher 123-124 vs 1:20 -121 for the M5 . No good data points on what the CP M6 traps yet , but I will have one soon . At the Estoril launch event the director of the M5\6 program said the competition package M5 ran a 7:45 at the ring , that's 10 seconds faster than the normal car , the M6 will be even faster . That puts both at the level if the 991 S and old 997 GT3 ! A major improvement and amazing for 4xxx pound cars !

I am still not sure if he was referring to M6 or M6 GC, but yea, 1/4 mile is always better with AWD than RWD (same hp/weight cars) when it comes to production cars.

What ever happened to doing a little research yourself? You are on an online car forum after all... how about any car magazine? Seriously, how on earth do people buy their cars? You are really blaming the salesman?
I think he just showed up from outer space. It's either that or some kind of time machine.

Correct real owners have gotten 11.6x with both the M5 /6 , with the M6 trapping 2- 3 mph faster .

Both are fast but 124 mph vs 120mph is a big difference in trap speeds and would result in a fair gap from a roll.

I think op is just trying to make you guys angry

Everyone knows that M6 and M6GC are for people who want to pay more to buy an overall worse car and call lesser desirability an "exclusivity"

And how much "online research were you able to find in JUNE (when I ordered my M5) of '13 on a 2014 M5 with CP smart ass! It was all hear say, BS and rumors!

NO I'm not blaming the salesman; I'm simply saying that "IF" he had said that the M6 was faster (he had one on the floor) then I would have considered it!!

"How on earth to people buy their cars?" Wow, what a serious piece of work you are! How many Car and Driver etc. did you see running articles with performance particulars on 2014 M5s/M6s in June of '13?

FWIW, THIS forum is FULL of miss information. To use your words, "You are on an online car forum after all..." Wow and you take as Gospel all that is written here because "it's an online car forum"... Moron!

I write a simple question and I get folks like you who I am surprised would lower themselves to even address the answer.

Dude, you never clarified if you were talking about the M6 Gran Coupe and not the M6 Coupe. The M6 Coupe is 132lbs lighter than the M5, it's faster. That answers that.

For the M6 Gran Coupe with the Comp Package, it is 22lbs heavier than the F10 M5. So you take a guess.
