DCT Clutch kit from Dodson

http://www.performanceracing.com/pre...-pri-show-2014

Not affiliated with them, but nice to see that someone at PRI was showcasing solutions to improve the DCT for high powered M5s.

Sharing as I don't recall anyone posting it.

This is the right way that must be down before tuning the car and preventing the DCT from damage.
What's the price?

I've got 2k miles on their various parts and trans oil for my built GTR... I'm quite happy with their stuff.

Elephant in the room is still What is the limitations of the DCT... NO matter how many times I ask it in these tuner threads nobody answers lol.. I can't imagine much more than 650wtrq before things just start failing.

Same here. I asked the same question in post #2 below and he answered me. I'm not convinced yet...

I'm assuming the big limitation is Clutch and looks like these guys agree with me to increase the limitation

Yeah he didn't really answer it, even if it was at 25% underrated for safe power that would assume like 715wtrq which is probably way over what it can actually take... Remember most of these are dynojets probably reading high... I still think around 650wtrq things will break. I think in the m4 section of the pure turbo setup they mentioned terry having to turn down boost because his DCT was slipping well under 650wtrq so I'm guessing if someone was running a stock dct in kill mode it would fold pretty quickly in the 600-750wtrq range.

650 wtrq? Actually not even that. 25% underrated (which is too much IMO) is 645 lb-ft at crank (since it's imput torque) and not wheel! indeed less than 600 wtrq (lb-ft) with respect to 10-15% drivetrain loss.

Theres a guy in Russia putting down 1006WHP on his X5M, he already had the DCT box rebuilt 2 times, 3rd time around they're installing Kevlar coated clutch packs that they had engineered out in Germany.

I'll post up any info or updates I get from him.

Edit: Check out this video, it's in Russian, but you can see how they dissasembled the whole DCT tranmission, and show how worn the factory clutch packs are, they also compared them to factory replacements, and then aftermarket replacements.

Basically, factory clutch packs are coated in this paper/cardboard like material, and their replacement clutch packs are Kevlar coated. Something that the factory would never install, simply to warrant the need for replacement in the future when these cars are out of warranty.

Skip to 8:00 minutes into the video to see the comparison of the clutch plates/packs.

The transmission in the E70 X5M is just a traditional auto, not a DCT.

There's a strong possibility he swapped it out and disabled the differential so he's running a RWD setup.

Like time travel... I think SSP has proven to be the go-to source on M5s lol...

Dodson owns GTRland and records, but at least from what I've seen on here SSP all the way.

The X5M does not run a DCT transmission. The transmission you are looking at in this video is 8HP70 automatic transmission.
This transmission will be in the new 2018 M5's this year in an AWD version as well. Very nice and smooth running transmission. Rated for 700 ftlbs of torque at the flywheel.

Install and alignment is VERY important on upgraded clutches.

Do a search. SSP dives like stock and holds power.

I am on stock DCT clutch and I dynoed my car about a week ago. Floored it 5th gear and had to let go of the gas at 5,000 RPM because stock clamps on charge pipes couldn't take it and started leaking boost and spraying meth. I looked at that pull and recorded 692WTQ around 3000RPM.

Never had any issues with stock DCT. My car as 48,000 miles. However, I DO NOT drive it hard, maybe once in a while.
