I just returned from having dyno pulls done at a different.

What I've discovered is the dyno operator makes ALL the difference!

This time, there was a MASSIVE industrial fan (held up by a forklift!) in front of the car, coupled with a smaller fan in front of the radiator. Before each pull, an infared tool was used to measure both the intercoolers' and air box housings' temps. Before doing either of the pulls, we waited until the intercooler temps got down to 72F, and the airbox temps to 110-120F. In fact, the intercooler temps stayed right around 72F during the each ENTIRE pull.

My Two Runs vs an M6 Coupe which had BMS + Torco High Octane Accelerator

My Two Runs vs an M6 Coupe which had BMS + 'Torco Race Fuels' HIGH octane ACCELERATOR:

His 4th gear run (GREEN CURVE) made 15-35 lb-ft more torque in the 3500-4500rpm range than my 4th gear pull. I'm also losing out in the 5500-6500rpm range in my 4th gear run.

I have a feeling my curve is more squiggly than his due to my 91 Octane vs his Torco-enhanced fuel. The jaggedness is probably indicative of timing being pulled (for safety) throughout the duration of the run because of my borderline 91 fuel. But then again, my Smoothing was set to 0; perhaps his was set to a higher number?

Conclusion

At least now I'm about +50 hp and +52 lb-ft vs pre-DINANTRONIC, in both 4th and 5th gears.

Considering my car WAS ALREADY FITTED with BOTH the M Performance Exhaust and Gruppe M Cold Air Intake at the time of my pre-DINANTRONIC pulls, perhaps the true at-the-wheel deltas -- from BONE STOCK to DINANTRONIC STAGE 2 -- are more on the order of +65 hp and +70 lb-ft, which at-the-flywheel translates to more like +80 hp and +85 lb-ft, inching ever so closer to Dinan's advertised Stage 2 gains -- on a Competition Package car -- of +75 hp and +109 lb-ft at-the-flywheel on 93 Octane.

Maybe if I just bump my fuel from 91 to 93, perhaps I'll get closer to that magical (but so far elusive) 109 lb-ft at-the-flywheel torque bump at 3500rpm which Dinan claims (instead of the +50 lb-ft or so that I'm currently seeing at-the-wheels) ...

Results

I am in agreement with your logic path with regards to trying to mimic what Dinan promotes as part of the tireless testing. I am sure it does provide a well designed product which should translate into positive real world results. I have to admire all the work you put into this and confirms some of my expectations when I finally do install this product in my car.

Does the BMS car have any other mods? Also, what was the BMS set too?

The BMS car is a non-Competition Package example. Not sure what boost it was set to.

Should have just got BMS and called it a day broski.. I have a 2014 550XI with just my Stage 1 BMS and a full exhaust I dynoed 491HP and 610TRQ. I have ran dinan stage 1-5 of my car (550XI) and I smoked em all. for a $600 Tune.. PURE AWESOME!

Granted DInan is working with BMW and the warranty will still be in tact and all that other stuff.. but really! the BMS is a plug and play! lol and BAM!

Very good write up on your data testing.
I think and I'm not 100% sure but is the Dinan software tested with 93 octane ?
Glad to see your number improve with another dyno operator. It does make a huge difference. Who knows what the BMS was set to. It was probably around 3.5 which seems to be the lowest everyone sets it to...
Good feedback regardless. I'm sure once Dinan officially release's a stage 2 for the comp package it will have updates already done.
You seem to be the only 1 testing this software so I would assume it is still in development phases. And that would mean that fixes would be meant to come out soon enough.

All Dinan testing is done with 93 Octane.

Dinan already has released Stage 2 for the Comp Package, but so far ONLY for the F10 M5 platform (i.e. the F06/F12/F13 M6 platform has slightly different dimensions to the front which in turn affects the Cold Air Intake dimensions. Dinan says their M6 Cold Air Intake should be available towards the end of the year).

That's correct.
But, I still would wait. There has to be a reason why its not being released.
Either way, thanks for sharing and you spent a lot of time doing this. Just benefits us all being car enthusiasts

I think the reason the M6 CAI has not yet been released is due to the time/scheduling required to complete the prototyping work necessary for the final product to go into production, especially in light of all the other unrelated new product development projects Dinan are simultaneously undertaking, etc.

Do you know if this includes M5 CP with electronic wastegate? If not, any idea when that version will be available?

Was it your car Dinan used for the M6 CAI prototyping?

Do you have the production M6 CAI in your hands right now?

Octane makes a material difference, yes.

You should try 93. if you can't get any locally you can do a mix with 91 and torco, 16oz of torco will make 15 gallons of 91 into ~93, or even better try different mixtures;93,96,100.

That would very interesting to see
