Air Conditioning
Hi
Has anyone had their Air Conditioning Condenser replaced? Mine is due in on Tuesday, BMW are footing the bill (it seems to be an issue on this model) but they are saying I will need to pay for a re-gas (£160+). Surely if its FOC they are admitting its a BMW problem, and it only needs a re-gas as the condenser is leaking. Anyone had the same issue? Thanks |

They advised me that I would have to pay a diagnostic check to figure out weather it was just a re gas or not. After figuring out it was the condenser they have said it will be a full warranty claim and wouldn't cost me a thing. If I was u I would complain as u wouldn't need a re gas if it wasent faulty. |

Mine will be going in Wednesday for the same. It was blowing hot air on the driver side and cold air on the passenger...not fun for the 100+ degrees we have right now

It cant due to mixer setting to red. Evaporators are faulty from factory. Our customer had this issue too, and was told by dealer that it's indeptended of his playing with AC setting.

I have a M5 MY12 with the same problems condenser leaking and installed a new one this week, however i noticed the new one was leaking as well which freaked me out.
I have found the source of the leak and it was leaking from the plastic torx plug at the bottom of the dryer which is accessible from underneath the engine if you remove the plastic underbody protection. I could see there was some fluid around the plastic plug so i tried tighten it carefully and found out the plug was hand tight only, i tightened it and now it's not leaking. This is a obvious QC problem from the Hella/Behr factory in France, they should have tightened to the right torque from the beginning. |

Had my condenser replaced on Friday...usual thing, blowing ambient temp air. No charge to me for diag, fitting or re-gassing. Per above comment, still not ice-cold..but then my previous 1-series wasn't either...cold enough, but not as chilly as a previous Golf GTD....I know that R134 isn't as good a refrigerant as previous gas, but 134 has been around for many years now.
@Ianab- if your condenser was still leaking, you'd have lost the gas, not expelling water. You'd also be able to spot gas leak with a UV lamp, they re-gas with a green/yellow dye. What you're spotting on the ground sounds like the normal expulsion of water from the AC system (ie, are you sure you should have tightened whatever you tightened? You may have inadvertently created a moisture trap?) |
