2012 M5 advice...

Hey guys,

So I had ordered a 2016 M3 but recently came across a 2012 M5 my dealer just received on a trade. The car is in amazing condition and only has 27K kms on it.

I'm debating cancelling my M3 order and picking up the M5 ASAP.

I wanted to get some advice from M5 owners here on things I should know of? Considering 2012 was the first year, what sort of problems were there? Any specific things I should keep an eye out on?

I'd really appreciate any help/advice from u guys.

TIA

If the service, updates and recalls are done then it should be fine. I'm thinking as long as you get at least one year warranty on it then you'll be on the safe side.

This is a certified BMW thru one of the BMW dealers in Toronto. So I get extended warranty till April 2017.

Mileage is low so that's why I'm feeling good about this particular car. But I'm not sure if 2012 was a "bad" year for the M5's or whether I should avoid 2012 M5's completely and aim for a different year instead.

Trying to get input on this.

I bought a 2011 (from the UK) which is the equivalent of your 12k....as per the above post, as long as servicing, recalls etc are done properly then nothing to worry about...

Ive had no issues with mine other than the occasional drivetrain error which has been fixed underwarranty from BMW with no ongoing issues. Dont think there is such a thing as a bad year but there are some problem M5s around with no apparent reasons as to why...As long as you have warranty I wouldnt worry at all

12 M5

I have a '12 M5.
I have not have had a single issue with the car , mind you I have only 8,000 kms on it. I know few mechanics from Budds and even they said the these F10 M5 are a one of a kind in build quality.
Hope that helps.

I have driven M4-3 before I got this..... that is why I got M5

You are probably going to be OK in a 2012 M5. It was the first model year for the F10. I'd hate to say this but you might be better off if you wait for a 2016 M3. If you were going to get an LCI 2014 or 2015 used M5, I'd say go for it, but there are a few things missing on the 2012's that might bother some people. The iDrive system is the biggest thing. It is the old CIC system which was used in all of the E generation BMW's. Unless you absolutely need all of the things that the M5 can offer, I would personally go for a new 2016 M3 myself or a used 2014 or 2015 M5 at least. I'm sure that there has to be a few used 2014/15 M5's out there that can compete with the price of a brand new F80 M3.

i had a 2012 m5 for 2 years never had any issues. had 24,000 km when i got rid of it.

i hardly think the difference between the 2012 idrive and later ones is worth talking about... the idrive is the idrive.

the m5 with a tune will be faster of course. but the new m3 tuned will probably be almost as fast... maybe even as fast as a tuned m5??

and its newer technology so id almost say go for the brand new m3.

the thing is m5 didnt sound any good. and i hear the m3/m4 sound is the same... ie. not very good. so if thats important to you...
