M5 Came with Pirelli PZero's

Thought all M5's wore Michelins? Are the Pirelli's something new or do they just put different tires on at different production runs?

That sucks as I think the Michelins are a far superior tyre in all aspects. Must be because they couldn't get the PSS at the factory for a particular run of cars I'd think.

Is yours CP? Not sure if this is true but my dealer told me all CP cars had PSS it was only non CP cars that may have something else. He may have just been blowing smoke but curious.

just out of curiosity, I'm changing my tires again (for not wearing them out instead for road hazards) i noticed while ordering tires pirellis are a good $100 more expensive than the Michelin's. Has anyone tested and compared the performance for the two tires? personally i love the Michelin pilot super sport my front tires have gone trough 19000miles with it being driven hard (mostly highway driving though). Does anyone recommend that?

My car is not CP. I had just assumed it would come with PSS's, but it didn't

I don't know anything about these PZero's. Tread Wear, etc. Crap.

Had the p zeros on my 991s for 18000 miles and found them pretty decent and good lasting. I prefer the pss but the p zeros were good and I drove like a complete prick for the majority of those 18000 miles!

Thanks for the info. I guess I will just torch up the Pirellis and put PSS on when I replace them. Since they are both OEM tires I would imagine no impact on my wheel/tire insurance.

Yes you should be fine with switch. Both OEM and no records of what is fitted either.

There was at least one guy who had the Pzero's on his CP M5. Scroll back. Seems they put them on all the cars.

Cool. It's hard to compare which tire is better without any reference point. I have never owned either tire. I think my car rides/handles great with the Pirelli's. But, I hear it could be that much better with the Michelin's.

I've driven both on same car (not M5) and I much prefer the Michelins. They have more grip.

For the majority of the drivers out there the difference is negligible unless you are a 9/10ths driver really pushing the car in sharp turns, high speed bends, and off the line.

I have the zeros as oem on my R8 and 991 Turbo S... not bad but the AWD aspect does mask the minor deficiencies rather well since I would consider myself a 9/10ths driver.

I agree with the others here and if there was a choice the PSS tire would be check boxed.

All of the ones I've seen in the last month or so at the dealer have the Pirellis... I'd be interested if it was a conscious choice, or just a Michelin supply issue, or...?
