Spark Plugs

Howdy fellow Festers! Question for those of you that are running a full ecu tune or BMS with more boost.
Are you guys running colder plug ranges with the higher boost levels over stock?
Just curious since I have seen zero posts about changing plugs other than for normal maintenance.
Thanks for the replies! ?

my tuner suggested me to change plugs to f8* m3/4 plugs as they have smaller gap

I just re-gapped to 0.022" and I haven't seen any misfires yet at 27psi and all sorts of fuel combinations

Hey allmotor_2000 so you're still running the stock plug, just re-gapped?

I don't have the experience to suggest another spark plug but after 5k miles running BMS, my plus weren't looking too great. Just had them changed out. Only 15k on the car when It was installed.

I've been reading that the piggy back's and tunes seem to shortening the life of a few components. Namely spark plugs and coils.
From experience on other forced induction motors I have always changed to colder plug ranges when increasing the boost. I'm wondering if the increased boost and heat are wearing out the plugs more quickly.

True, I have always changed my plugs in my Supercharged/Turbocharged cars but never had premature wear. The issue in are cars are due to various items like timing, knock, under boost... etc . Most piggys are just increasing boost without properly tuning the other parameters. I think with a proper tune, you shouldn't see plugs wearing the way they do on piggys.

This is just my opinion.

Running stock timing with lots of boost and poor fuel will shorten the plug life.

Completely different engine, but nevertheless...in the Lightning/Harley world we're running NGK copper plugs with varying gaps and changing them every 10k or so once we're past like 10psi. They give great readings and don't hold heat like titanium or iridium. I'm sure BMW knew what they were doing when they picked the plugs they're using, but now what we're pushing well beyond that, factory spec plugs might be out the door.

Stock is 0.034. There may be colder options but haven't tried that yet. So far seems to hold 26-27psi + meth. Again I run slightly less timing than stock so not sure how this works for everybody else.

Yup, just too bad. The car is in the workshop swapping larger turbos, tuning the dme & doing some additional ice tank for the Intercooler.

Do you run less timing to avoid detonation? Shouldn't you be able to run those pressures with meth ok? What octane fuel are you running?
