Is the m3 gts the closest to the gtr? Not sure, but still think its not as quick/capable. Then again, there aren't many cars that keep up with a gtr. The f10 lapped the ring in the same time as a 997 c2s, but the gtr smashes that :-/

As a current GTR owner, an ex E60 M5 owner and the a soon be F10 M5 owner I am going go say this comparison is retarded. And are these guys running these tests on public roads? Sure looks like it even if it was blocked off. Remind me not to read anything from Autocar.

I remember back in the day Autocar compared the E60 M5 with the Ferrari F430!

It actually won the comparison.

Strangely, they're testing the M5 against the latest 2012 GT-R too. Second most useless video by Autocar after their "Will it Drift?".

By the way, 2:20 shows a nice interior contrast

Why don't the try to load 4 grown men and 4 golf bags into the GT-R and see who wins that

Its the stupidest comparison ever. They need to at least use car segments.

Autocar, brutal.

If I wanted a car like thet GTR I would have bought a 911 turbo, but I don't because I need somewhere to put the 3 kids, that's why I went for the M5 .....

The drift video was bad but this is a complete joke. Anyone who thinks the M5 competes with the GTR needs their head read.

I´ve driven both cars ( mostly GT-R ) and the GT-R is fantastic when it comes to performance, but the rest of the car..............no way.

M5 is a complete performance sedan - the best IMO.
GT-R - brutal performance - nothing more.

A car that weighs close to 4400lbs RWD should not be beating a dedicated sports car like GTR with less weight\AWD in 0-100mph like they did and slalom tests..

What a lot us us are saying is why not pit the Nissan with natural competitors like 997 or Zr1.. after all you would not compare Zr1 with the M5 would you?
And when they did pit the GTR against the F10M5, they stopped at 100mph.. WTH.. I remember they did video of F10 M5, E63 PP, Panamera and Jag and they did not stop at 100mph
lots of fanboys ITT. they probably did the test because both cars are currently the performance flagship for their brands, and are similarly priced. i thought it was an interesting and unique test to say the least.

I am not surprised at the outcome but honestly I am surprised at the margin of victory. The M5 got smoked in all of the tests, that was surprising. Dont get me wrong I would rather have the M5 in my driveway but kudos to Nissan for building a great performance car.

Same here. I was surprised by how much the GT-R beat the M5 in every performance category. Mainly because the new M5 has a much greater emphasis on luxury than previous versions.

From a GT-R owner that is refreshingly honest Mrhonest!

I wonder how much Nissan paid Autocar to do this "comparison"

I really can't wrap my head around this test. What was the rational for comparing these two cars? What kind of category or class do they share other than having 4 wheels? It is not unlike a comparison between the same M5 with a Mercedes Benz SUV, completely pointless and with regards to their motive.
