Missing my ///M5

About three weeks ago I came out of work to find that my 2016 MCB M5 had broken the fall of a linen cart which was being pushed past my car when a wind gust blew it over. It landed on top of the hood and put a pretty substantial dent in it. The cart also scratched the front fascia and BMW Roundel emblem on the hood as well as shattered the drivers side Adaptive headlight.

Luckily the guy that lost control of the cart left a note and a number to call. The Linen service's Liability coverage assumed 100% of the damage but the vehicle is still in the body shop. The initial estimate was about $5K, but since moisture got into the headlight mechanism due to the wide open nature of the damage, some of the wiring was corroded which necessitated further work. Everything is almost done except for the reprogramming of the headlight. In the meantime I have been driving around in an Enterprise Rental, a Ford Fusion. Nice car, good MPG, boring as hell.

It's killing me just waiting for this work to get done. I took delivery of my car in early May and it was barely 6 weeks old when it got damaged. Poor guy! The nice weather here is only making things worse - it's hard to enjoy driving around in a Fusion when I could be in my own car. It's my second M5, so at least I have the memories of days gone by!!

Thanks for listening!

Sorry to hear this, feel your pain. But fair play to the Linen guy for leaving note, respect.

UPDATE: Just swung by the body shop this evening and the car should be ready tomorrow. The repairs look great, cannot even tell there was damage. The holdup has been getting the new Adaptive Headlight programmed, which will occur tomorrow morning. I am hopeful that by noon tomorrow the car will be made whole again.

On a side note, I did a walk around of the car before I left the body shop and the exterior looks great. I did take note of how far the drivers seat has been pushed back - I am a little afraid some of those auto body guys have been taking liberties with the car. Hope it's not like a Ferris Bueller remake!!

STILL NOT DONE!! Apparently the reprogramming of the headlight did not go as planned. The software wasn't compatible and a fuse was blown which prevented power from getting the headlight in the first place. Of course this all goes down Friday afternoon which means another weekend (this makes 3 weekends now) without my car. Frustrating!!

I feel your pain. A 4*8' sheet of plywood from an 18 wheeler scratched my front bumper, and my fender, then took out my drivers side mirror that permanently scratched the driver window glass in the process. I had to pay out of pocket because in Texas if object hits the ground before impact it's a no fault accident. This happened on my 6th week of ownership
