Finally! Picked up my '14 CP
Picked her up this evening. 15 miles on the odometer -- pretty sure the dealership folks had some fun w her before I could get down to pick her up. I'm a proponent of the hard break-in, so I can only hope they drove her hard while joy riding in my car...
From 15 - 40 miles or so on my way home from the dealership, I took her all the way up to 5500 or so and let the engine break me back down to legal speeds multiple times. As the bulk of the drive home was highway, I used various gears to move between different rpm ranges. Further thoughts and pictures tomorrow and ongoing. This car feels completely different than my E60 M5 did. Night and day. While cruising in various comfort settings, it may as well be a 528. Or even a Buick (did I say that!). Where the E60 wanted to kill you, this one seems only to want to please you. Dip in hard, and it takes off. The steering and suspension are much "smoother" overall, even in sport plus all around. The E60 was much more raw - which was it's personality. I had an RPI section 3 on my E60 so this exhaust is pretty tame in comparison. Haven't driven it enough to provide any more color than that. A more detailed review will follow in the coming days. Will update with pix tomorrow. EDIT: Another pic - taken while running errands this weekend: EDIT: The only pic I have so far - old and new next to each other: Last edited by dhirm5; 10-21-2013 at 10:33 AM.. |

Dude! I swear I should get a job working for Bimmerpost. Lol! I was at a Passport yesterday and I asked one of the CA's to show me 2 M5's that just arrived there. They were in the back and I got a chance to see both of them.
I saw yours and someone else's. Both Azurite Black. It was actually my first time seeing Azurite black and it's remarkable how close to Carbon Black it is. It has a blue hue to it that looks devastatingly good and seems just a little darker than Imperial Blue. I didn't get any pictures of your car but I got a good shot of the other one awaiting delivery. Yours seemed well optioned, especially with the 601M's. The other one was fully loaded! He had ZCP and CCB's on it, as well as the 343M's. Every option was on it except Rear Seat Entertainment and Night Vision. Truly an epic M5. Here's the shot I got of the other M5. Whoever it is that owns it, I hope they really get a chance to drive it like it is meant to be driven and not let their wife take it to Harris Teeter just 3 times a week.

I went with 601M since they're different - mild regret, but it's hard to be unhappy with the car. I think they may look better if they didn't have the two tone finish - they actually have gloss charcoal barrels and spoke sides, and silver face. |

This thing is hellaciously fast. Some kid just pulled out in front of me without looking in his busted ass Sentra. I nailed it to go around him with anger as is my habit when people pull stupid things on the road. The ensuing rush of speed surprised the hell out of me. The torque this monster has is insane. In the E60 I had to get the revs up to 4 - 5k before it got to scary mode.
Gotta recalibrate my foot! |
