bmw quoted a 15% increase in efficiency compared to the v10 which puts your numbers about in that range. that being said your numbers are on the low end yet I doubt your service tech (including everyone else on this forum) will take your complaint seriously.

To be honest if your going to buy a 100k sports car and your worried about gas mileage, maybe consider the I8 !! 25K more but the mileage will be good but your electric bill will go up then! And you risk of running out of battery after 150 Miles!

I just don't get all of these "If you own an M5, you shouldn't worry about gas mileage" comments. Would any of you buy the car if it get 3mpg?
Regardless, the OP's concern does not seem to be a financial one but whether there may be an issue with his car that is manifesting itself in unusually low fuel efficiency. If you own an M5, how could you NOT care if the car was not operating properly?

You are right - 3 mpg would be unusual.

I am not saying it is or isn't normal. Actually seems pretty much in line with what I get. My point is that it is a legit concern to raise to make sure there isn't an issue without getting bashed for being a miser.

On the way down to Port A, a 212 mile trip through small towns with stops and on two lane roads with passing opportunities galore, I only got 18.5mpg. So as I stated before, more starts and stops will definitely impact the mileage. I think also the passing runs reduce the mileage as well.
