Thoughts on the M5

I had the luck of driving one for over a week whilst BMW sorted out a fault with the LED adaptive lights on my new LCI 530d.

Great car, was really impressed. It played the fast, fun tarmac terrorist and easy to drive comfortably to work in the same package. Not as engaging as my old M3 (?E45 - last of the IL6 ones) but can't expect that from a 5 series. Engine noise is fantastic & loved the completeness of the package.

Fuel economy wasn't as bad as I feared - averaged 22mpg with some spirited & some quite driving and the range was old.

Now thinking of swapping my 530d for one.....

Great point, I always get a really basic 3 series when I take mine in. Frigging Porsche even gave us a really crap c class when I took the wife's in, all dealers screw me all the time. I can see a trend here.

For a 530d owner to say fuel economy wasnt as bad as you feared, the f10 m5 must be quite good on petrol/mpg

Over 4000 miles I averaged ~49 mpg in the F10 535d (mixed driving, but majority was gentle motorway cruise). I'm guessing I can get the M5 to average high 20's once it's run in.

Lol

I have known my dealer for >12 years & purchased all my BMs from him. He always looks after me!

Have a few weeks to decide what to do....
