Where do you get your car serviced?
Is it okay if I go in for service to the dealer that I did not buy the car from? (I understand that we can get service from any BMW dealership but I am asking.. if I can get good service from them)
There is a dealership here that I know and they have great service dept. However, I am not too happy with their sales person so I was wondering if I can buy the car from other dealership and still get (expect) good service from this dealership. (the sales person will recognize me that I did not buy the car from them if he sees me) Thank you! |

You didn't like the sales person to the point where you don't want to go there anymore, but you still purchased the car from him/her? I have to say your nicer than I am.. I would walk out immediately.. give my business to a dealer that wants it.
To answer your question - Yes, but some dealerships won't give out a loner car if you didn't buy your car from them. If you tip your SA your fine and shouldn't have to worry about that.

OP lives in Ohio (per his profile). In case another member from Ohio is reading this - maybe they can give a BMW service center recommendation.

So what I meant in this post was, There are two dealerships here (dealership A and B). I went both dealers and talked to salesperson to get a quote on M5. At the end, I decided to get the car from dealership B (because I did not like the attitude of the salesperson in A). So I was wondering if I can still get friendly (nice) service from dealership A. (I don't like service dpt in dealership B) Thanks for all your input. (And yes I am in Ohio. And yes it started snowing..) |

you have to follow the money, most dealerships these days make a big chunk of their income from the service department rather than sales department. So bottom line every dealer would love to have your business at the service department

I buy from one dealer, and service at another. No problems.

I had no clue that SA's take tips. Has anyone tipped their SA's in CA?

I just shake hands with the guy and the paper trades hands. I'm sure everyone will agree you get better service from a tipped SA versus a not tipped SA. Then when it's needed, they go out of their way to help you with your car. Don't get me wrong though.. BMW SA's are pretty good and you don't have to tip them. I'm sure some people here get incredible service and never tip their SA and continue to get excellent service. But there is always "better service" and going a step above/beyond to help the customer.

Also from Ohio here, it's fine to service the car at the dealer you prefer. I also went through dealer A and B for the 550i purchase and I ended up buying it from dealer A. In addition, I bought a BMW and a Mini from dealer B before. The Sales at dealer B didn't bother me at all whenever I drop the car in for service because he knew I got a better deal from dealer A.
At the end, this is a business, not a relationship. Plus, most dealers make their profit from service, not sales.
