Speedo Question

I just got my Escort Max and it has a digital readout for speed. It is constantly 3mph lower than the heads up display even at cruise, so no lag. Anyone have an idea which one is closer to correct? I know I can set cruise control for 60mph and time it over a distance with a stop watch but its hard to do just 60mph in the M.... lol Anyone else notice this?

The M5 speedo reads 4 mph faster. All of my radars and gps devices confirm this. Max included.

are you sure it is a straight 4MPH? Mine appears to be 6% faster than actual at all different speeds -- happens in both MPH and KPH over here.

Yes that's what I have. Logic dictates that it can't possibly be 4mph at all speeds otherwise the speedometer would read 4mph at standstill, and we all know it does not.

Yes so does mine, NO other BMW car I have owned has such a Large discrepancy in MPH readings.

I'll use two separate GPS tomorrow and let you guys know. In my other car they are spot on.

I use a GPS Rider "on all the time" this info is accurate.

I got rolled the other day with HUD showing 123- his gun, recently calibrated was 117- thats about a 5% delta.

Oh I got the mandatory court appearance here too... 22348B code which is 2 pts on the record and 30 days license suspension if convicted... I said IF.

Cheap, we usually get 6/9 for that sort of speed unless there is some "Mega" reason for it.

I have to speed--- I was caught going up hill too which is soo random. The officer was writing up the ticket when his partner pulled up (bikes) and he came back and said "its his fault you got the ticket- he was late so I figured I catch a few speeders before he showed"

fuckers. LOL

At an indicated 88 mph my gps shows 84 mph.

Mine is pretty consistent 45GPS reads 48 Hud, 60GPS reads 63 Hud, 80GPS reads 83 on Hud. Have not done higher (yet). Normally I would have thought the percentage would take it to a higher mph difference. IE: 45mph+7%=48.17mph. 80mph+7%=85.6mph but I'm getting 83mph. Go figure... lol

got this off other forum.

"It is a serious fine for a manufacturer to have a car's speedometer show that you are going slower than you are actually going (ie, indicating 67 while actually traveling 70). So, BMW and other manufacturers build in a decent amount for margin of error.

If you think that yours is extremely over stated you can take it in, however, the BMW margin of error is 10% plus 2.4mph. So, at 100mph your speedometer could indicate 112mph and it would not be outside of the margin of error and BMW wouldn't address the issue."
