P-Cars. - 911

I know there's a lot of people on this forum that own P-Cars in addition to their M5's so I wanted to see if I could get some feedback.

I want to buy a p-car and keep my M5 as my DD.

I'm leaning towards a CPO car that's 2-3 years old; lots of choices in regards to these cars (turbo, carrera 4s) so looking for some help with options, transmission etc. I recently drove a GT3 RS that my friend owns and just a bit too much for driving in a city such as Miami.

I'm not going to track the car but will be open to some mods since I plan to keep the car for a long time.

Thanks in advance.

I got a 2015 991 Turbo CPO (5.8K miles). Runs great. Very different platform to the M5... way better handling and overall build. I have a COBB tune + exhaust and it's super fun to drive and Auto-X.

M5 will become a highway beast...

I'd suggest a 4S you can't go wrong with that,
and also the 991.1 is the last of the NA engines for that model. Porsche's are high revving cars, and you need to drive it in the proper band. Considering you have a turbo car this will give you a proper feel with a NA motor.

I own a 2016 RS which I would and couldn't daily drive. The Turbo 991 is a great DD, but lacks the sound of the 4S with sports exhaust. Not a lot of modding on that needed. Good luck

Try the regular GT3, its built for the track and performs VDRY well as a daily driver.

It will come down to your ow preference on how daily or track aligned the car has to be to meet expectations and needs.

911's are a great drivers car but take work, if your aren't comfortable heal and toeing etc a PDK trans is much better suited- advanced drives mke their own call. PDK is normally quicker but the manual may be more fun (personal opinion) ... both will take the beating in their strid but at least you won't miss shift (money shift) and blow the ngine, clutch or box.

PS all 911's make great driver / track cars period, just different tastes and speeds...

I would go for GTS. I think it has all the options needed and nice exhaust. Check those

Unless you are just 'set on' getting a 911, don't dismiss looking at a '15/'16 Cayman GTS, perhaps one with the x73 sport suspension like mine. You will pay far less for it than the GT4 and have the option of a PDK. I transitioned to it after my 72,000 miles in M5. Completely different experience with its light weight and responsive chassis.

Porsche driving experience is great. They just work and are great fun to own and drive. Try them all to make your decision....sometimes the most obvious one may not be the one that suites your needs. The Caman Boxster platforms are beautifully balanced and the 911 is well a 911.....I also had a Panamara which is also,a great car with very rewarding driving experience.....

Start a starter 911 in the 991 model, I would recommend a C4 or C4S. Priced right at this time.

Now, before you go jump into the world of porsches, and since you have an F10 M5, you may get surprised as they may not stack up with an M5.

I would highly recommend a 996 or 997 Turbo. That would give your M5 a little competition.

.2 Carrera S in Miami Blue with Sports Exhaust. Done.

Or if you can swing it, .2 GTS!!! Faster around Hockenheim than the .1 GT3! Oh and get the manual.

Of the many things I enjoy about the M5, all that torque starting low in the rev range is addicting. So addicting that when I went shopping for a P-car, I couldn't give it up. I drove several Caymans, including 2016 GTS and several 911 models both on and off track. All of them had their sweet spots, all had something better than the M5, sound, chassis, handling, etc; all were great cars in their own right.

Then I drove a 991.1 turbo.... one hit of the AWD turbo launch control and I was hooked. I'm addicted to that rush of acceleration; even slightly leaning on it from 60 mph produces effortless rush of thrust. The turbo is a GT car and not howling GT3. It's not as loud or visceral. However, it will out gun and out run most anything you come across (including my M5) on the street without a single mod. It's also a very capable and fun at the track.

So I bought a 991.2 turbo and so far I'm extremely happy with it.

The .2 Turbo is leaps and bounds a better and different car than the .1 Turbo. I'm personally not a Turbo fan, but the .2 Turbo is pretty awesome. I don't like the .1 Turbo at all. Like I mentioned above about the .2 GTS, this car is now turbocharged and we can probably get that same rush of acceleration for a much lower price than the .2 Turbo. The GTS seems like a bit more of a bespoke car than a Turbo to me as well.

Happy launch controlling to you sir.
