I suppose any part in any car is prone to failure really any time. On a closed track, you have the comfort of runoff and safety crews, etc. 100 MPH+ in to a corner where you're on the side of a mountain is probably outside of my comfort zone, but I can appreciate the scariness of the failure in really any condition.
As with anytime we have a failure that affects our ability to control the vehicle, even a tire blowout, I would probably avoid including the detail about the excessive speed in your report to the SA. Save travels! Hope they get you fixed up quickly and empathize with your safety concerns.

It's really only Trevor and this certainly isn't the first time I've noticed that he seems to be very immature.

This is crazy. A user reports a near death experience and this @$$hole Trevor is giving him sht? This could literally happen to any one of us.
I wouldn't feel safe driving that car ever again. time to get rid of it after the issue is fixed. goodluck OP and let us know how everything turns out.

For a performance car that costs over $115,000 new, this should not happen. Ever. I am extremely concerned about this as I would hate the system to shut down doing 160+ during a roll race or even worse with my wife and children in the car. I can only imagine the terror OP must have felt driving along a canyon road and the steering locks up. FFS BMW sort your shit out.

Car is at the dealership service manager said it's power steering pump and that part of the steering system have no warning indicators.
Now I REALLY appreciate some of the posts here. I've been part of this forum since 2009 this is the place I come to for help, advice and information. Some times you get help, advice and info your looking for, but majority of times you get people comenting here ho don't own bmw, don't have any clue what they're talking about and just like to sit behind computer and talk OUT Of THERE ASS. For the the rest of us Bmw been great to me I love the brand. Been to m school owned 3 m5 and 2m3 with my third idividual m3 arivving in weeks. I'm not bashing the brand nor I'm complaining here. All I wanted to relay in my post that this experience left deep skid marks my shorts that go all the way to my soul. To many ifs, whys and what would have been. I drive my bmw and enjoy it a lot just now have to rebuild my covidence that was lost with this problem. |

Very sorry to hear about the failure. Glad no one was hurt and that they were able to locate the problem. Hope the car rebuilds your trust in it with worry free driving from here on out!

I'm, surprised to hear of the power steering pump going bad at only 20,000 miles. However, I recently got mine replaced as well. It was slightly leaking and I got it replaced under my Extended Warranty at about 68,000 miles on my M5. I don't know how long it was leaking before I replaced it but this seems to now be a recurring issue with the M5. I think I would have to blame whoever manufactured the pump and not necessarily BMW. Kind of the same thing with the engine oil pump fiasco back in 2012.

[QUOTE=Sergm3;20130269]Dude - that's a really stupid fucking place to be doing 115. For those that aren't familiar, this is not like a wide open freeway at 2AM... That's really putting a lot of other drivers in danger just with those speeds on that road. Do you admit this is true? I mean WTF...

Unfortunate inccident and appears to be being sorted in a timely manner.
I don't care how much money you spent and what car you drive, they are machines and can and will break down. Jumping up and down isn't going to help and saying you now are reconsidering your next new bmw (m3?) are seems drastic and unwarranted. If you now change to a Merc or Bently, Rolls or Porsche you are not changing the chance of this happening- its just statistics and like trying to second guess getting struck by lightening or being on a plane that crashs. If BMW was't looking after you then yes, jump up and down otherwise accept things fail on these complex machines. Best advice given here was stop driving it, you were risking life by doing so- you should have had the car towed from the side of the hill and definetly not gone out on the highway just to get a video. The worst statements were to do with the value of the car- would it be ok for the steering to fail on a school run $10k car with kids in?? Oh and the stupid comments against Trevor... |

I have never had this experience in any of my cars that are much less expensive and have many many more miles than my M5: 2001 Camry, 250K miles 2004 G35, 107K miles 2012 Sequoia, 78K miles I would be highly concerned also... and highly disappointed if it happened to me. |

[QUOTE=Sergm3;20135944]This is OK with me and many here would do the same sort of thing when they have the opportunty. Its just when things fail it puts you and others at risk so you will get both good and questioning / put down responses.

Serg - do yourself a favor - delete all your posts about driving crazy - because when you hit someone/crash - which you definitely will if you continue to behave in the manner described above - the plaintiff's lawyer is going to use it against you.
