I Need 3 Reasons Not to Sell my M5 F10 LCI
After owning and enjoying my beloved 2014 M5 F10 for 4 years... I am afraid it is time to sell the car... why?
1. To avoid further resale price hit now that the M5 F90 is around the corner. 2. One year remaining for the warrantee. Considering that there are 2 other cars in the garage, would you agree that I should sell my M5 or disagree and why? FYI Current mileage on the car is about 35.6K miles. Warrantee will expire on October 2018 Car resale value today is about 40% only (at best) of its brand new value. What do you think!!

Thanks
Actually, I would not buy a replacement at least for the coming 2 years specially that I have 2 other cars but non of them is sporty. One is SUV And the other is a full size luxurious...

I'd keep if I was thinking of replacing with something similar
Most of your depreciation is done and you know the car. If your not going to use it and don't need it I'd sell |

If you are looking at how much these cars are worth right now, then its time to sell. This is my 3rd M5(e39,e60 and F10), it will go as low as 20's then stay there but maintenance will continue.
If the love is lost, no other reason to keep it. Comparing it with owners of e39 M5, some would keep them until 200k miles and not care about the $$$, because they love them. It is the love that keeps these cars moving, not the price.

Interesting I am on the other end of the stick. I want something with 4 doors and equal or more power, looking to move from my E92 M3.
Also am afraid of spending an extra $7k today on an F10 as opposed to saving that money by waiting for the new M5 to come out... |

Sunk costs are just that, sunk, done and gone. Don't consider looking forward, just look at expenditures going forward. By the numbers only.
Personally..if me and I had the room for a weekend fun ride, keep.

Its totally up to you at this point. Like other have said, the car has already lost a majority of its resale value ( a little more after new M5 release). You have to look at it and think if you really want that car or is causing a burden on you. Personally, I'd keep it until right until the warranty is over.

Many thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. I really appreciate it.
I think I will post ads to sell yet will continue enjoying it until I get a deal that I believe is fair for both the buyer and I. Despite the fact I have been and still am in love with the car, I think I would either sell it throughout the coming couple of months or keep it for at least additional 2 years. Wish me good luck and I will let you know how things end up.

After learning my lesson, Ive decided that I would try not to sell/trade a car before I have gotten the supposed replacement.
If I followed this rule earlier in my years, I would still have the cars that I have loved the most. Until you are really sure about it, dont sell it. Some rules to live by: If you buy BNEW, you eat the depreciation. If you buy used, you eat the maintenance. What do you like to be served to you?

If you buy new BMW, do it in the 1st or 2nd year of your desired model so you'd enjoy it for 6 to 8 years before the new generation get released.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I have a 2013 Alpine White M5 with 62K miles, just have done exterior mods and feel the need to get something new already. I've owned it since April of this year.
I live in an area where it seems I can't stretch the M5's legs and with depreciation it feels like I need to get rid of it now or keep it forever lol. |

Actually sometimes I really think of keeping it until as much as I can. Specially that M5 has been my dream car since I was in the high school and I just love mine as it is and have been really taking care of it and have been really enjoying it!!!

I sold my 2014 F10 M5 with competition pack at the 4-year mark with 25k miles for $57k back in August. It was difficult to let go of the car because it was reliable, low miles, and I took great care of it. Sold it to a friend and it looked almost brand new like it rolled off the showroom. The smart thing was to keep it and drive it until you feel that the car is costing you more in maintenance, but life is too short. Can't worry about depreciation or sunk cost.
Got me an MY18 Porsche 911 Carrera S and am very happy with it. I still see my M5 on the weekends when I golf with the person who I sold it to and I'm more critical of the car than he is. I tell him where to park the car or how he missed a spot and put swirl marks on the car, etc. Still a lot of personal attachment to the car, but every day I drive the 911, the less I remember about the M5.

I wish I would sell it to someone that I am sure will take good care of it.
Congrats on the Porsche... very nice choice, enjoy it.
