Ticket Question
So last night I was going into a shopping center by me, noticed a lot of police activity but still pulled in. Those of you that know the Edgewater NJ area, on Thursday nights the kids like to get together at Starbucks to show off their cars. When I pulled in the cop waved me over, and said he had to ticket me for tints. Then he asked me where my inspection sticker was – I had no clue. Being registered in CT previously, I wasn’t aware of the necessary stickers for my car in NJ bc I assumed I would have just gotten them all at my dealer. (contacted my dealer today and they made a mistake, just didn’t put it on, which is no big deal to me).
Anyways I got to talking to the cop and said I was fine with the ticket, he was just doing his job, but I honestly wasn’t sure about the inspection sticker after looking everywhere. When I left he said he only wrote me up for tints, not the inspection since that’s a more costly ticket. (Not sure if this had anything to do with the United We Stand plate I got). He then went on to tell me you shouldn’t have issues with the tint, we’re just doing this to discourage the kids from coming here and loitering. Just dont come here on Thursday nights, was really cool about it. When I got home I looked at my ticket, and they spelled my name wrong. My last name is three letters, its almost impossible to spell wrong, especially the way they spelled it. I then went online to look and saw that in cases, tickets can be thrown out for erroneous info, like a last name. Was this cop giving me a chance to get out of the ticket if I chose to go to court? For the record, saving $60 isnt worth my time in going to court, and Im in the wrong and am going to pay it, just wondering. In a way Im glad I got pulled over now since I wasnt running an inspection sticker. For those of you in Edgewater, Koxal, steer clear of Edgewater Commons on Thursday nights if you got tints or aren’t running a front plate.

That's pretty lame, but at least you have a great positive attitude about it. I would just pay the ticket if you are not concerned, but u could totally win that case if you put a little effort into it.

You are lucky. Here in Los Angeles, CA, not only do you have to pay the ticket fine, but then you need to go to a CHP / LAPD station to personally verify that the tint was removed. Then you need to go back to the tint shop and have it tinted again.

weird - i didnt know you needed a sticker to have a tint.
I'm glad i have a tint which looks like factory glass. Cant imagine any scenario in which i have a tint ticket.

Thing is u can barely tell 55 - it was one of those massive traffic stops where all cars were being checked, by many cops. I think i was waved over mainly for not having my inspection sticker, then he got me for tints because he had to get me for something with all those officers there.

Wow that stinks. I am usually the same way as you. I get a kick out of having those conversations with the police officers if they are friendly.

55!? Sheesh. How can they even tell?
35 is legal in Cali. Many folks run 15-18 without much issue.

Hey Patrick - hey everyone (lots of familiar names on here!)
I don't believe his misspelling your name renders the tickets defective. The car body, make, plate, place of occurrence, date etc are essential elements of the ticket though. Also, did he hand you a carbon copy from a hand-written ticket? Often things don't appear right on the copy but are fine on the original one. Thought a ticket I got had the wrong license plate but I had them pull the original and I was shocked to see it was correct on there. As for the NJ inspection stickers, I thought they were no longer required for < 5 years-old vehicles, as of 2010... I routinely see cars in NJ with no sticker(s) at all on the windshield. Are they all in the wrong? Rich Last edited by v12; 06-29-2013 at 08:16 AM.. |

$54, + $2 processing fee for online payment, definitely not worth my time waiting to fight it in court. Actually a blessing in disguise since the cop was cool and didn't give me the $200 ticket for not having an inspection sticker after striking up a convo with him, but pointed out to me that I needed to get one.
My dealer overnighted me the inspection sticker and apologized for the oversight, I think it was because I did ED, since I filled out my documentation one day, then my plates arrived early, and then my car showed up and I rushed them because I was going nuts with my car stuck in VPC.
