Really need some help on this. Have a 2015 on order but given the long lead time needed for special orders, I have to have config locked by Jan 1st.

Here is the config that I have right now:
- Moonstone metallic
- Caramel / black full merino (special order)
- honey walnut trim (special order)
- executive package
- drivers assistance package
- 20" 343m (silver) wheels
- B&O sound
- enhanced BT and USB
- headliner in upholstery color

What I am now debating is whether to get pyrite brown exterior. It looks less than appealing in the BMW car configuration. But if you just google search pyrite brown, you will see the m4 and m3 in that color. It's got an interesting sparkle to it. I am thinking whether I should go for that. I would get the black kidney grilles to go along with pyrite brown. Or if I should get the imperial blue? I am so lost on this! I have gone from moonstone to space gray to silver stone to moonstone to here! I have never been more undecided! Key is to have an exterior color that looks good with the caramel / black. Black, SG, and white are strict no no.

Let the (constructive) opinions flow!

Thanks

Yes, quite the dilemma. I've seen Moonstone and Pyrite Brown in person. Between the two, I would pick Moonstone. It is such a unique kind of silver. Pyrite Brown does sparkle, but it's pretty subtle, so it's not as much as you would think. Me personally, if I was gonna go Caramel for the interior, I'd go with Frozen Bronze for the exterior. I agree, that White and Black is too mainstream, especially for Caramel. Or maybe try to go SUPER Individual and order either that new Long Beach Blue or Mediterranean Blue. Those with Caramel would look rather good too I think. But yeah if you must, then Moonstone. If not, Frozen Bronze would look killer!

My vote is for moonstone as well. It's really a beautiful color.

Hmm interesting. Pyrite maybe too dark - that's my concern. But it's so unique! Thing is I haven't seen any of these colors in person (except the interior), so it makes it tough to choose. I like the Matte's but don't want to deal with the upkeep of the matte's. So I have decided to stay away from it. All my BMW's to date have been imperial blue (or a similar shade) with some sort of brown interiors. So imperial blue with caramel is safest choice but want to do something different, hence inclination for moonstone originally. However a light exterior with a medium light interior - concerned if all put together would look nice? I think it will, but not having seen an actual car in that color is an impediment.

The long beach blue looks interesting - have you seen that in person? Is it kind of like Monte Carlo blue? I will be in front of a pc later today and will look it up.

Thanks much.

If you're looking for sparkle similar to imperial but different, moonstone may not be the right choice. It can display many shades &, given the right light, reflects different colours to the silver base, however, the fleck is only visible very close up.

The BMW indy app seems to suggest that the std indy colours are now xirallic (many of the indy colours now have a paint code of Xnn), so I believe a darker indy colour like pyrite will provide the sparkle you mention in the right light. If you have any reservations going dark brown on light brown, then perhaps tanzanite blue would be something safe but different to imperial.

Thank you for the really helpful suggestion. That tanzanite Blue looks stunning. I will hit up NorthernX5M to get his opinion.

I like the subtlety of pyrite - from far away it probably doesn't look much but as you come closer there is an interesting play from the shades of light (at least from pics online). Moonstone reflects many shades and looks quite interesting as well. There was a 2013 m5 with SO full on sale at a CT Porsche dealer. He put up a lot of pics online and highlighted how moonstone looks diff shades under diff lights and I loved it. I would go for the moonstone in a heartbeat but concerned that lack of contrast between interior and exterior may be an issue.

I liked the long beach blue and the tanzanite blue. Maybe those are options.

Anyone reading this thread has a moonstone, pyrite brown, or a long beach / Tanzanite blue m5 around NYC / Philly / Delaware ? I would come in a heartbeat to see the colors!

I sent you some pictures of Tanzanite. My company servers met the cryptowall virus so most of my good pictures are gone. Moonstone was my backup choice if BMW denied my order for Tanzanite. Tanzanite>>Imperial.

In front of a PC now - for those pitching in, here are the 4 colors (added san marino blue after doing more searching)

Here are pics of Moonstone Metallic M6: http://www.ecarlist.com/showroom/185...os/17898231#04 (from an ebay advert)

Here is another blue that I found - San Marino Blue. Its a std color on M6 http://www.6post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=723022

Here is the pyrite brown that i was talking about: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1020530

And here is the Tanzanite Blue: http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=927585 It looks really really good to me

I think one thing's clear (at least to me): for blues Tanzanite or San marino >> Imperial. So I am crossing Imperial off my list.

Dave - Long Beach Blue looks nice but I think TB and SMB are more to my taste.

Anyone seen San Marino Blue in M5? it looks very saturated (something I like) and def a welcome change to "near black" blues that I have owned.

Available on apple app store.

Personally not sure on moonstone/caramel; I agree with your early comment that greater contrast needed if you go moonstone. I have moonstone/SO which, IMO, works very well. Perhaps moonstone/amarone for something more unique?

If you're sticking with caramel (great choice BTW), TB or SMB would get my vote over moonstone.

JMH - thanks for sharing. I saw this last night and a very good read.

Was Le Mans Blue available as a standard color on E90 M and E60 M cars? I have seen someone with a saturated blue (similar to San Marino Blue) E90 M3 near my residence and that's why I started searching for that color. From the shots MCB >> LMB.

Pyrite is a great color. Although it is brown, it is very similar to Tanzanite blue. Both Pyrite and Tanzite show an incredible amount of depth when hit with direct light.

Below is a photo of direct light on Pyrite. This is hit by our flash so it shows the depth of the color

I just walked down to BMW Manhattan which is right below my work place. My dealer is quite far and I can't go there for a while.

Anyway, attaching pics with a few combinations i have been thinking about

- Moonstone + caramel + walnut honey
- Moonstone + caramel + red sycamore
- space gray + caramel + walnut honey
- San Marino Blue + caramel + walnut honey

Moonstone and caramel are hard colors to capture. The actual caramel color is a bit darker than the one in the moonstone pics. And it looks even lighter when contrasted to San Marino Blue.

No Pyrite Brown pics, since they didn't have the swatch. I really need to see it in flesh to pick it up. So if I can somehow view it live before Jan 1st, I can add it to the build. I do like its depth, but it is scary how different the colors look in real compared to how they look in pics. I am very very picky about the aesthetics, and having the wrong color will make me not like my beast :-(

Btw, looked at imperial blue on a M4, and space gray on x3.

Also, looked at Monte Carlo Blue, Tanzanite Blue, Le Mans Blue, and Monaco Blue. Like the Tanzanite but pics are horrible. Impossible to capture with iPhone.

What do you guys think?
