Update on Specifics

Jerry at Eurocharged passed on the following on this tune:

1.) Tune is $ 1,999.00 plus $ 1,000.00 deposit on the laptop that he will send with the tune loaded on it.

2.) You will need to be hooked up to a good sized charger while you upload the tune via OBD port and it takes a while. The reason for the charger is that you cannot let the battery voltage drop below a certain amount during this process or it will damage electronic modules and related electrical gear.

3.) You can drive/evaluate the tune for one or two days and if you like it, you can just pack up the laptop and send it back. If you want the stage 2, you can call in and request it (I believe Jerry said that it is at no charge - you just can't have both tunes). When they receive the laptop back you will be refunded your deposit. There are two M5's running this tune already with good results. According to Jerry, they will be posting their impressions soon.

Really good gains at a an exceptionally good price compared to the Performing Import tune which was $ 4000 ?

BTW, seems like the PI website is down:

I like the gains too but there is a lot to be said for the Performing Imports Tune except for the price. It is a pricey tune and the price should carry a warranty.

Yes, the PI (or Noelle) tune definitely has it's merits. No question about that.

I thought for sure that the Dyno sheet alone would create some buzz from forum members. I guess no one noticed that the Eurocharged difference from stock @ 2700 rpm is almost 100 hp. Not a small difference.

Agreed... Sometimes it seems there's no buzz around here unless someone comes in and talks negative about the topic

Coldlist and GhanemMBN held strong views on F10 M5 tuning and could probably have had something to add on this, but both seem to have disappeared?

thats torque, no?

BTW, im talking with a company now who has a tune for the f10 that brings it to 730 hp at the crank.

...from a tune only.(with only a catback exhaust)

You are correct about the torque. That 730 hp tune sounds interesting. Is it something that is being tested already or still in development?

no, its already developed, and available for sale.

ECU tuning group, california.

ive been talking with their tuner over email. first when he told me it was 730 hp, i thought he was referring to a fully built m5 with tune, downpipes, upgraded turbos, etc, etc,

but he said no its just the tune.

it seemed a lot higher than most other tunes i said, he said "yeah , we made it stronger".

Sure he didn't say 630hp?

That's what their dynosheet says anyway:

http://ecutuninggroup.com/wp-content...024.jpg?hover=

I would be a bit sceptical if they are doing 100hp over their advertised tune and and achieves this without downpipes etc. There is also said to be a boost limit in the ECU that has to be bypassed with some extra hardware... But, hey, they might have found out something new

i know, i thought it was a typo when he said 730 hp as well.(730.4 to be exact) .but we emailed back and forth 5-6 times, and he confirmed it was 730.4 hp. he did say the 730 hp was with a cat back exhaust, but he didn't say which one. this could account for what? 20-30 hp.? leaving the tune to get it to around 700 maybe?

maybe he just hasn't updated the website? i know the tuner im getting to install it for me said they come out with updates quite often, then he has to call all the customers who have tunes(lots of c63's etc) and ask them if they want the update.

but regardless i went ahead and ordered it. well see.

I e-mailed ECU tuning group as well and they confirmed it was 730 hp. They posted an updated Dyno sheet on their blog. They also confirmed that the cat-back exhaust is a Meisterschaft.

jags also showed me a dyno of one of the runs of an m6 that showed 597 whp with their tune. (it was running 22" wheels). however its stock pull was 539 hp. (the stock pull on eurocharged chart posted earlier was only 488 hp...? confusing, so much variation)

597 doesn't equate to a 730 at the crank does it? ... unless it has about an 18-19% drive train loss.

i would have expected a number more like 620-630 to the wheels if the engine made 730...

however if it was putting 600 to the wheels i would think that is still a very good result.

but im no expert that's for sure.

BTW, seems like the PI website is down:

http://www.performingimports.com/
Performing Imports website is up again.

Seems like their site and email was hijacked

Good to hear that it was a glitch and not their fault. It did seem strange that the site would disappear, as long as they have been in business.

Great, I am waiting for some real life experiences with an ECU tune. Lots of people talk and think about it but no one is pulling the trigger so far. Kudos for doing this. Do you have an aftermarket exhaust system?

well, that's what i was thinking, but i certainly cant be the first one on this forum to tune their m5???

especially with all the California owners, you live right in the same town as ECU tuning group. along with several others I'm sure.

He told me he's been tuning these for 7 months and does them all the time!

they were actually sold out of them when i first called, it took him 2 days to get another in to sell me.

well see...

No, I don't live in California, I live in Western NY state in the buffalo, Niagara Falls area. There is absolutely nothing around here. There are only 2 F10 M5's in this area as far as I know.
