and personally I would avoid it. it adds a film over the windscreen that makes it much easier to scratch. stopped ordering it a few years ago and haven't looked back.
Neil.

The film is one of the laminate layers, it does not affect the outside or inside surface of the glass itself. You may be thinking of third party films which are applied to the inner or outer surface.

I've had a Climate Comfort screen on various BMWs for 15 years or more, the only down side is the fact that the metallised layer blocks phone and GPS signals. Never had any scratches in my windscreen, only stone chips.

HUD usually removed shade band from climate comfort windscreen in the past, however, UK non-M LCI F10 configurator without HUD removes shade band (rather than zero costs it) if you select climate comfort windscreen. BMW GB/UK Product Support detailed knowledge of their own products seems virtually non-existent The coating is within the laminated glass panels, so any scratching would be to the inner or outer glass surfaces. |

Just gone out to look at mine. Indeed the Climate Comfort screens in these cars does not have the green shade band. First one I've had that does not.

I would consider the 650D M if it ever came out.

For 'out of town driving', in just under 4000 miles I got around 50 mpg average from the 313 hp 535d (essentially the same as 640d) - mainly motorway with some town driving/traffic odd full throttle acceleration runs. Pretty consistent average I got on long motorway runs was 63 mpg at 60 mph & 54 mpg at 70ish mph (Eco Pro with air con set to normal) - I am a bit of a hyper miler. Best things about the 3.0d twin turbo is the potential economy considering the performance on offer & the refinement. The 3.0d is does not sound like a diesel other than during start up & at parking speeds due to all the sound deadening & NVH improvements over say the F30 3.0d. Agree that M650D would be a great all rounder/touring car. My DP has just got a black M6 GC which looks magnificent in real life. During break-in I have averaged 25.5 mpg from the M5 on mainly A roads (within speed limits, but heavy acceleration). Driven like the 535d, I guess I could get the M5 to average nearer 30 mpg, however, not going to be easy in a car with this much, ahem, 'character'. |
