Talking You really want to know what a straightpiped F10 M5 sounds like?!

Dudes,

I finally got around to making a new M5 video this morning. It was quite impromptu but I think I captured the essence of my F10 M5 very well. I was able to employ my high definition microphone to capture the sound of the RPi GTM in all of its glory. Hope that you guys enjoy!

Compare the sound of my unmuffled M5 to the sound of a muffled M5.

More videos to come! I have a few more ideas in my head that I can't wait to try out!

I was hoping to get some of my E60 m5 sound back and have been thinking about the GT exhaust. Can you confirm that what I was hearing is this exhaust?

http://shoprpi.com/product_info.php?products_id=146

Is this the best (cheapest) way to get it? How much should I expect to pay in labor to put it on?

thanks!

Honestly if you are looking to get back some of your E60 M5 from the good ole' days, in my personal opinion the Eisenmann Race Axleback system is the way to go. Several members have that setup and know what I am talking about. I've heard it many times and the sound from just the axleback setup is incredible. The RPi GT system is quieter than the Eisenmann Race, but the RPi GTM system is much louder than the Eisenmann Race. My advice is to go get the Eisenmann Race. You will not regret it. Oh yeah labor is cheap, don't pay more than a couple hundred to put on an aftermarket exhaust.

Sounds great, but quite loud... Do you get in trouble with the law (we would over here)?

This might be a better comparison with the Manhart Exhaust though:

No it's only really loud when you get on the throttle. Even at high rpm's it's still not crazy loud (which is something I still don't like, cause I want louder). The Twin Turbo V8 sound characteristics are nothing like the V10 from the E60. On my old straightpiped E60 V10, the sound was managable below 3,500rpms, but as soon as you went above that the exhaust would just start to scream no matter how much throttle you were giving it. On the F10 the exhaust only really roars when you give it a lot of throttle. So just cruising around town and on the highway it's still subtle.

Now if I were to rev the F10 right next to a cop that would be a different story.

The only way to get the M5 louder would be to have the exhaust exit just after the downpipes (don't do sidepipes ala Corvette though )

Cooincidentally, and you will probably laugh at this, one of my friends with a 2006 E60 ESS VT2 Supercharged M5, is going to modify his exhaust system so that not only will the exhaust gases and sound come out of the 4 exhaust tailpipes under the rear bumper, but also so that the exhaust gases and sound are going to come out of the side grills where the plastic usually covers those holes in the fenders with the M5 badge on them. He said he's going to use his local shop here in SD to manufacter new metal side grills as well as design the new piping necessary to get the pipes through each side of the car to reach the side grills. I told him: "That sounds cool man" Lol!
