Are Acquisition Fees Mandatory?

moved from the general forum to here:

Hey gang - I am negotiating an M5 lease with a dealer that I do not have a relationship with and they are insisting that the "Acquisition Fee" of $725 is mandatory and set by BMW.

Background: I've worked with my local BMW dealer on my last four BMW leases and in reviewing the last three lease contracts the line item on the lease contract for "Acquisition Fee" has been $0.

Question for the Forum: Is the Acquisition Fee in fact mandatory or discretionary?

I've researched this forum and Bimmerfest first and nothing popped out at me other than the fact that some people are paying it. I haven't paid it on my last three leases. Would love to understand if others experienced the same and/or if something in the lease terms have changed in the last couple of years.

Thanks in advance!
Sean

Since it's a lease, just worry about getting the monthly payment to where you are happy.

I believe the acquisition fee is mandatory through BMWFS - just like an origination fee on a loan - but I am not 100% sure. What is negotiable for sure are any "dealer prep fees" Generally in the $200-$300 range.

The acquisition fee is mandatory from BMWFS for leases

Thanks Gents!

GOLFFRR - I also emailed David today inquiring about ED on a 2015 M5. The lease on my M3 is up in December. There may be a potential path to an M5 via ED if I can accommodate travel logistics and getting over the fact of having a Euro plate attached to my front bumper.

Cheers,
Sean

David is a great guy, didn't buy car from him but was my backup choice for ED order. I am currently in Europe driving my 2015 M5. You have a front plate but it's only double taped to the front, not drilled in. I also moved from a E93 M3 to a f10 M5.

Congrats on the M5! What color and options did you get?

My interests are pretty simple: SG, Black Extended Merino, Exec Package & 20" 343M's. Living vicariously through everyone else that orders above and beyond

Good to know about the double taped front ED plate - thanks for sharing.
