140004 and misfiring on cyl. 7
Taking the car to an Indy shop in a few days but wondering if anyone has any advice…
Had a bm3 stage 1 tune on the car which I reverted back to stock (trying to pass emissions test in NY) and the only other upgrade is the charge pipes. I changed the MAFs and paper air filters. The whole area was oiled up from BMC drop in filters. Having the shop do all plugs and coils when it goes in + upstream O2 sensors (as PM). Will also ask to check/clean the fuel injectors. Anything else I should have them check/change while it's there? No CEL yet, but these are the codes when plugged into the scanner: 180001 Catalyst: Efficiency Below Threshold, O 140010 Misfiring, Several Cylinder Identified. 0 140710 Misfiring. Cylinder 7 Identified, 0 140004 Misfiring, Several Cylinder Exhaust Gas Damaging, 140704 Combustion Misfire, Cylinder 7 Exhaust Gas Damaging, O 180101 Catalyst 2: Efficiency Below threshold |

Probably recovering from the BM3,have them do plug change and as far as injectors go I'd think again they can be difficult and tricky to remove.Try a fuel injector cleaner additive first then use redex with your fuel,I use it and car runs faultless with no CELs then try cancelling the fault codes and see if they come back.
*if misfiring check ign.coil 7 first. Last edited by M5Rick; 01-18-2022 at 09:52 AM.. |

Instead of just changing the cyl 7 ignition coil; I'm just changing them all with the spark plug service. The coils are supposed to be changed at 50-60k miles according to something I've read; not sure if that's actually true. |

Ive owned a lot of bmws All of them had coils fail at inconvenient times so i do as pm! Remember the coils and plugs are important on these cars |

It's got catless Downpipes besides the charge pipe that I knew about. So it's definitely not passing NYS inspection unless I go back to OEM cats… I've read that mini cats from 'big daddies garage' are a hit/miss. Any other ideas besides going back to stock? Note - I can have only 1 monitor in a not ready state in NY to pass inspection. |

Did you buy the car from a BMW dealer?
I would think any in-state dealer is not allowed to sell a car that would fail state inspections. You could contact the dealer and make them correct the situation, if so. |

I got the plugs and coils changed..oil/MAFs/air filters. And car is running like new. But since I don't have the stock downpipes I won't be passing emissions testing in NY it seems like. Will probably just drive it as is until I sell/trade it…hoping to not get pulled over |

Did you change all your spark plugs before tuning the car?
