Winding Sound When Driving

I have noticed a slight winding sound in my new M5 behind the instrument cluster area whenever my foot is on the gas. The sound disappears about a second after I take my foot off the gas pedal. The sound is most noticable when driving on a high way at cruising speeds with the rpm between 1-2.

I took my car for the 2000 KM service and demonstrated the issue to the service technician who acknowledged the sound. A few days later, he told me that they believe it is the direct injection. They also mentioned that they tried another new car and it has the same exact sound.

Don't get me wrong, the sound is not that noticeable, but I can hear it and it irritates me. Has anyone else experienced this? If it is normal in some cars, is there a way to have BMW look into it?

Have him check the driver side mirror. Mine has a similar problem and the tech said the mirror has to be replaced. I decided to wait until spring when the weather clears up in OH. Not sure if its the same as your issue.

Have same thing. Was driving the other day on new asphalt with no radio and heard sound stop about a second after let off gas. Figured it was a pump of some sort disconnecting when I went into "coast" mode. Might also be the "efficient dynamics"?

I know what you mean as I have the same issue. just like you, I asked dealer to check at break in service & they said it's normal.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the air boxes having the holes.

I got the same problem too, especially when the radio is off. Right after I let go the throttle, the sound will disappear...

Same problem as everyone else. I also noticed it happens when the engine is still cold, for first few minutes of driving. Same with you guys?
