How To: Run an SMG E60 M5 on a Dynapack

hey gents,

last time I had a dyno event my friend tried to run his E60 SMG M5 on the Dynapack (hub dyno) but we couldnt get it to switch gear and gain RPM.

admittedly the guys who we use for the Dynapack are not big EURO guys.

anyways, we want to give it a try again but want to know what needs to be done to get the car to respond.

thanks in advance.

Check the E60 M5 forum. This is the F10 M5 forum and the new M5 has a DCT gearbox, not SMG.

Wrong forum but I will help lol.

Was the hood popped during the runs and is the car an SMG?

If so the car will not engage gear if the hood or driver's door is open. If you want to do the runs with the hood open you have to close the hood latches by hand so the car detects that the hood is closed then pull the hood lever inside the cabin to reopen them back to normal before closing the hood.

thank's very much for this feedback.

other than what you suggested is it simply put the car in sport mode, turn DSC off and go?

The other poster meant this, M5Board it has the most active users in the E60 M5 sub forum.

Yes turn off DSC and make sure it is M mode either P500 or P500S. You will get numerous errors once the wheels start spinning but they will go away once you drive the car after the dyno.

yeah i know that the codes will reset after a few start ups.

my guess is that we had either the door or hood open the last time we tried this.
