Question M-View in HUD - Shift-Point indication doesn't show?!

Dear Sequential Shifters,

I picked up my baby (absolutely love this car!) two days ago. It literally has nothing to do with the F10 550i that I drove until Tuesday. But for the chassis, this is literally a different car. I knew but didn't expect the difference to be that drastic.

The one thing that I was not abel to figure our and couldn't find any answers on the forum so far is the M-View in the Heads-Up Display that is supposed to indicate the optimal shift points when in Sequential Shift Mode. I triple checked all my settings and they are in line with the instructions. And yet, the little boxes above the rev indication won't ever light up, neither in yellow nor in red. Please see picture below where I marked the detail that I am talking about.

What am I doing wrong? The funny part: I called three dealerships and they were not able to explain over the phone either.

Best,
(H)

Does it flash when it gets close to redline? (real close)

EDIT: I just saw you only have 180 miles on the car. Since you won't be approaching redline until after the break-in service is completed, you won't see the flashing yet.

Can't tell yet because with just 140 miles on it, I don't want to crank it up all the way yet.

But it is my understandiŽng that these bars should start showing almost at any rmp and gradually build up to eventually show on green bar when the optimal shifft point is reached.

Could it possibly be that this feature is disabled before 1200 mile check?

I dont think they are disabled.
Regardless, you wont see them until you get the rpm's way up there.

This is correct. The yellow lights start lighting up at 1k rpm or less from the red line. You won't see it during the break-in if you're keeping it under 5,500 rpm. It all happens very quickly near the redline.

Its really for your peripheral vision. As you approach redline or optimal shiftpoint, you'll see the yellow bars quickly light up on their way to red. By the time you shift when driving in anger, youve presumably done so at the optimal time. It happens very fast. You wont see it in normal driving. Only when throttling aggressively.

So is the top arc of shift lights really just a magnification of the lower arc -- expanding the rpm view of the yellow and red zones?

If so, does the top arc really indicate this is the optimal shifting point, or just simply give a magnified, easier to view assessment of when you are going out of the "yellow" and into the "red"?

The shift lights at the top of the HUD in M View are there simply to help shift at the optimal point.

The optimal point being just before it's 7,100rpm limit. I was using it a few times just the other day.. I think it works between 6,600-7,000.. or something like that,

You are correct, and they light up at a different rate according to what gear you are in.

Yes, I think that's the correct way to think about it. The top arc is an expanded view to make it easier to shift right at redline.
