How do I fix this?

Guys,

A long story short. Dropped off the car to get new rear michelins sport 4s installed and got this as a surprise present. No way to prove to the shop it was them, but I know it was. I washed those rims by hand 30 mins prior and they were perfect.

Question is, if I just want to get it touched up and cover it with a clear coat to prevent peeling, where to buy the product? I've searched online and can't find anything.

Appreciate your help

Reach out to Wheels Dr. I'm not sure if you're in Miami but these guys do good work at a reasonable price. 305-964-7909.

Thanks, called them and got a quote for $175 to redo the whole wheel. Is that reasonable?

It seems a bit much, but maybe that repair shop has a good rep? I've paid $80-100 to repair a curbed wheel here in socal.

Should name that shop that damaged your wheel; they need to feel/understand the repercussions of their shoddy work and customer service.

That's a fair price for Miami; more importantly they do good work. Take the receipt to the tire shop that damaged the wheel.

Warning. I would avoid redoing the whole wheel if possible. If you notice, the face of the wheel has a machined look with very fine machine lines. I haven't seen anyone with a refinished wheel get this perfect. Ideally you'd have someone just spot paint that section. A full refinish would be a repainted then they would slightly cut the face of the wheel to have the silver part showing, but they won't get it perfect and it will look slightly different than the rest.

Good point. That's why I wanted to retouch originally, to not have any additional issues with redoing the whole wheel.

Wheels Dr can fix anything big or small. What I've done in the past is send them a pic of the damage and let them suggest the best course. They will more than likely be able to repair the specific area w/o refinishing the wheel.

I called Wheel Dr and described the issue. They are the ones that told me the whole wheel needs to be redone.

By the way, the shop agreed to get it fixed, but they are using Turbax in Miami. The reviews aren't that good, so not sure I want to get it done there.

I might just drive down to Wheel Dr and ask for their opinion in person.

Turbax is not very good; I think driving down there may be a good idea. Ask for Jorge or Axel.

Did you check paperwork when you dropped off car? My SA always does inspection to check for any damage prior to taking possession.

I have not used, but I know others have had success with this product. They have large index of colors to match manufacturers.

Thanks for the link, but I need the right color for the wheel, not for the body. Don't even know what color would match the wheel color.

I have seen others report to using on wheels as well. That is actually the first area I saw product recommended.

I would ask them to replace it. Why mess around with refinishing it, if they are at fault? If the shop is truly at fault it's their responsibility to make you whole again. No matter who repairs it, it won't have a factory finish and will be mismatched.
