Drivetrain malfunction error: reduced power

Hey guys,

I've been having problems with a "drivetrain malfunction error: reduced power" with my M5 lately. Anytime I drive the car hard, it'll send it into a malfunction with loss of power, no turbo spooling. After I restart car, all systems checkout okay. This has happened three times in the past week. Car has 25K and I've been using the same Shell station since ownership, so I don't think it's related to gas.

My question is, even though all systems are ok and car is running fine now, will these codes show up when BMW service checks out the car? Are they stored in the car's computer?

Thanks,

Haysam

the error codes would be stored. Perhaps, you just need to have the dealer to do some software update.

Thanks, I hope that's what it is. I ran off the road 2 months ago during the winter storms down here and had to have my oil cooler replaced along with some underbody panels. Maybe they missed something with the install.

I'm going to schedule to take it in next week. I don't think it's serious since I'm able to still drive the car

Maybe your solenoids need to be changed

I think that may be the problem, because before the malfunction notice comes on, I feel like that the DCT becomes very sluggish, doesn't shift as fast.

The Butt dyno is also telling me that the power output even prior to the malfunction notice is not at 100%.

They replaced mine right after the first time my light came on. Problem solved along with a software update.

Had a drivetrain malfunction a couple weeks ago while cruising at 65 MPH. I had a slight hesitation and the error came up. It cleared itself after about 6-7 seconds. Weird.

It cleared itself because you were driving at hyper speed

UPDATE: Dealer reprogramed my car and found that the intake temperature charge was too high and intercooler coolant low. They topped off coolant and gave me the car back.

I've driven the car hard for the past couple of days and so far so good. Fingers crossed.
