Had them on my 550i and was looking to remove them, they don't blend with the car at all

Yup what he said.

That and as specified under European Union law as well as under United Nations ECE regulations, ALL cars sold and used within European Union territory must have a rear fog lamp (either on the sides or in the center)

I think BMW wants to differentiate them from the 550 so the more aggressive air intake look more race ready.

The last M5 to have fog lamps was the E39 M5. My 03 E39 M5 has them.

It's all because of changing level of quality of low beam lights. In the past, you really needed the extra light from fog lights, but not so much as the new lights provide much better pattern and projection. That said, as a design language it's still nice to have the option to delete them or use them as signaling lights.

uberhol prestige....that's great!

The Halo's are bright enough...

But seriously the reason is for cooling... and it would look gross to integrate the Fog lamps into the bumper

Fogs look good on certain vehicles (off road vehicles, trucks and etc). On the f10 m5, it is a def no ! why ruin such a beautiful bumper.

And what would they really add ? Ok so if you want to cruise around at night with zero fog to join the Boyz looking "cool" but, as a Brit, where we have plenty of fog, I don't miss them (having had them on my X5M50d before). I'd rather have actual cool (intakes and brake cooling) than looking "cool". They have rear fogs which is as much as will be seen in an M5 anyway :-)
