BMC filter check engine light issue
Back in december my wife ordered me some BMC air filters. My car ran fine until a month ago.
While driving the M5 on a 4hr road trip to Lake Havasue my check engine light comes on and since there are no BMW dealers around the lake, I was forced to go to the local independent shop. He scanned my engine and said according to the code it had something to do with one of my injectors. He suggested I reset the code and see if it comes back. I was able to drive my car home 4hrs with no code returning. Some time passes. Fast forward this week and the CEL comes back on. I take it to the dealer who tells me the code is for BANK 2 AIR MASS sensor. My SA tells me that it was likely caused by the oiled air filter which they suggest is NOT good for the M5. My SA said he has seen this many times now with OILED filters. They replaced the air mass sensor under warranty and offered to replace my BMC filters with stock ones under warranty as well. My SA suggest if I am going to run air filters (which he is totally fine with) that I should switch to a dry version design. My question is, has any one else had any issues with oiled BMC filters?

These cars dump a little oil back into the intake. If you have a few miles on your car, open one of the intake hoses. I bet you'll find engine oil film in there. Checked mine when removing the carbon filters. My tuner said that it is "normal". We also removed the sensors to clean, a good bit of oil came out.

I had BMC filters for few hundred miles before i switched back to the stock filters. My car made more power with stock filters. I dynoed my car with BMC and stock filters just to compare. I did like the sound of BMC but I would use dry filter. One more thing I did wipe off the extra oil before I installed BMC'S. I think I waisted my money on the oiled filters. I'm gonna see if someone wants to buy them.

Thanks for the replies. I removed mine per the dealer suggestion. I'll get a dry set it just keep the stockers in it.
