When I saw the mention and comparison to the Enzo in the article I was like ...what?? but it's correct...I looked up Enzo 0-60 and 1/4 mile time from the C&D review. I know it's 10 years ago but that's just crazy when you think about it.

Absolutely... still think the AMG is the beast engine of the group, by the way. When choosing one of these cars, its like you are at the ice cream parlor.. you are already at the level of great no matter what, you are only fighting over which flavor you prefer...

For my money it would be the M5 or RS7 only. They others are not lookers to me, I don't like Benz, and the DRL on the jag are awkward. Panamera is a mess.

Like I said before the trap speed is there for the M5 to run mid 11s. With the right tires it could I'm almost certain. I wish they would have published the 60ft time. To show how much faster e63 is off the line. That would show it's really a matter of traction for the M5.

Couldn't have summed it up better myself. Very well said!

Having owned just as many BMWs as Benzes, I don't have a favorite. I've had both great and bad experiences with each company. I like to change it up.

At the moment, I am really pleased with the direction that AMG is going. They're flat-out producing more well-rounded and more exciting cars than ever. The reviews of AMG cars produced since 2012 echo that sentiment.

BMW has answered back with great cars like the F10 M5, M6 Gran Coupe, and perhaps the F80/F82 M3/M4 (we'll see when Chris Harris & co. get their hands on them).

On a side note, when I see people talk down about the M3 or M5, I usually interject to ask them if they have personal experience with the car. When I see people dismiss the LCI W212 E63 or the LCI C63, I do the same.

Outside of Porsche, BMW M is hard to beat when it comes to performance-oriented daily drivers. However, Quattro and AMG have made major strides in recent years. The competition is catching up. It was inevitable. I don't know why some people get so threatened or defensive when these comparison tests pop up. I wish they realized that all that matters is picking the right car for them. One can celebrate his decision without tearing down the alternative (especially if that alternative performs admirably).

I can certainly understand that personal preference (with respect to exterior/interior design) plays a major role in the decision to purchase a car. What I don't understand is people knocking the competition's cars without ever having driven them.

What a great article. I didn't think the m5 would come out on top. But goes to show it's not just about 0-60 times... I'm glad I made the right choice

Road holding:

BMW M5 0.92 G
It is disappointing, soft suspension .
It takes some stiffer springs.
Must make at least 0.98 G

The reason the M5 won this comparison is because it's RWD. The fact that it is challenging to drive fast is what makes it fun. It's also what keeps you from driving like a lunatic. You never know when the back end is going to go sliding sideways. I've had mine start going sideways under full throttle at 75 MPH on a dry freeway while making a lane change. I never felt out of control, but it reminds you to stay on top of how you're driving.

Driving a super sedan with AWD is like playing chess with a 4 yr old. You may when ever match, but it will get boring quick. There is no arguing that AWD is quicker. I don't think being quickest in a straight line is necessarily funnest way to get from point A to B.

You rarely come across unbiased Mag these days,
And I believe this article was unbiased NOT ure about the mag -
I don't mind criticizing M5 and actually we do it here all the time but I hate it when one mag is used as a "Hired Gun" to smear M5 reputation !!

M5 is a beast all around but for for the sound department I have to give it to the Merc, that AMG is just pure thunder.

E63 4640 lbs ???

im pretty sure the previous RWD E63 was lighter than the m5, so it gain over 350 lbs from the AWD?

something weird there.

Additionally, take a look at the 0-60 vs. 5-60 times. AWD helps the others so their 0-60's are faster than the M5, but the in the 5-60 the M5 crushes all... and continues accelerate.
The rolling acceleration numbers are real-world numbers. I almost never floor the car from a dead stop - but mashing it getting on the freeway or getting around slower cars or just because it's a rush? - all the time. The four wheel drive cars are great for drag racing and impressive numbers, but once the M5 puts the power down there are almost no cars that are faster unless you want to spend a whole lot more money.

I "NEVER" find Audi R7's exterior more styling than BMW!!!
The interior ergonomics is also a question mark for me vs. BMW... I find BMW's design and ergonomics much higher and better...

Dude
I just had my wife who drive a lot of cars but currently has an Odyssey - for our kids,
Had her drive my M5 for 30 minutes,
and once she got down she said "Wow I am tired, fun but need to be so focused"
And I believe she was spot on -
M5 ain't easy to drive but sure to please -

Really? Why not? If I had a GT3 or 458 they would be in the track first week I owned them.
