I dont think there's such thing as less hp before the break in.

Had some run with modded M5 e60 and M6 e63, and it was faster. ( i think)

Picked up my M5 today and the dealer confirmed that a service needs to be done at 1200 miles to gain full use of the hp in the car. He called it a 'break-in' before full performance. The display when I turned the car on shows that service is needed in 1200 miles. Regardless, the power in this car is nothing short of spectacular!!

I picked up my Singapore Grey M5 today and asked the question to my dealer and it is CONFIRMED that the factory has de-tuned the car until the first service visit, which is 1200 miles or 2000 km in Canada.

The dealer will re-programmed back to original spec. and change flluids on that visit at dealer/warranty cost.

Interesting, my friend is a technician at my local main dealer, I will request he does the run in service and checks the info available, PC hook up etc. Still another 600 miles to go but I have two trips in the next week planned so that will swallow those miles ready. Just wonder if I can get the speed limit removed at the same time! ;-)
Seems weird that my old remapped 335d would go to 175mph and this won't.

Hey anyone notice the additional 'running' in bit from 2000km to 3500km where speeds can be increased but to only go to the vehicles speed limit 250km briefly! And in BMW's words 'for example when overtaking' lol

urban legend at its finest...

I have had a huge amount for 500 hp plus cars--- my car has the full compliment of HP from delivery.

The last person that knows what there talking about is the tech's at the dealership. As I just read in a couple other threads, some dealerships didnt even know how to go about the 1200 miles service, nor did they bother to look up the TSB for instructions. Some changed engine oil but disregarded changing out the diff fluid.

So I do not believe that the car has reduced HP before the re-flash.

When I bought my car my sales manager argued with me that the car comes with runflats. Would not budge to the point that I laughed at him. This was while he was trying to scare me into buying the wheel and tire warranty and i lol'd at him and told him i'll be ok just paying for the repairs on my own if need be. He was talking to me like I couldnt afford to replace a 500 dollars tire even though i'm buying one of the more expensive cars that they have available. I wanted to tell him that I had 8K dollars worth of HRE wheels and tires on my B8 S4, but I held off on mentioning it, as I was in the process of trading them a so called "stock" S4.

Agreed, a lot of so called dealership techs don't know what they are talking about. When I took my X5M in for the first time, they wanted to put 10/60 in it, I told them shouldn't it be 5W-30? The tech said no, all M car uses 10/60, I then showed him BWM's own documents that says X5M should use 5W-30 and the tech apologized and said he has never seen the document.

I don't know whether BMW F10 M5 has reduced HP before 1200M service or not, but I do know techs are not to be trusted completely.

You will only know from the people that redlined there car before Break in period. If you didn't why do you care. I understand the whole ED. Not for the rest of you i don't see the big deal. If you did why did no one say this in the thread.
