As it says in the title really, do you find the M5 tends to get noticed a lot?
One of the big attractions for me is that the car seems pretty 'stealth' and unless you know what you're looking for, you could almost blend in with the commuter brigade in their 530d's. I will de-badge mine when I get it to make it even more low key. Just wondering what the real world experience is. Cheers |

I find that my M gets a great deal of attention from people that know cars. For example, I had a 545 before and when I bought the M, several people didn't even notice, including my wife. It was the same color, mind you, but I had the car 4 days before my wife asked if I had done something different to my car.

I think it depends on where you live. I am in an area with a very big car scene. The local cars and coffee has over 300 cars, every month. Bugatti's are not uncommon to see there along with the occasional Enzo.
My M5 flies under the radar pretty much everywhere I go. I also have mine debadged, on the rear, side gills and the front grill. However, anyone who knows what an M5 is, will recognize the car based on the exhaust, wheels and other characteristics of the car.

Very few people notice it or give the car a second look. Much less than my E92 M3 and a whole lot less than the ML63 I had. Somehow that SUV attracted a lot of attention - too bad I really didn't like it.

If you mean M5 attracts attention of girls/women, I would say most likely no. To majority of them even M6 and 320 are the same... they are "BMW"
But if you mean M5 attracts attention of car enthusiast, I would say definitely yes... whenever I see M5 (no matter E60 or F10) my head turns and would like to stare and admire....There is a guy in my neighborhood with MCB M5 and I have fun whenever I see him on the road since we do some runs On a side note, if you want to buy a car to get attention of people, you are in wrong business... get 911 or R8 or Jag F-Type. They seem much more sexy and attractive than M5

Really like the fact that this car hides a 'monster' in plain clothing. Agree that a car enthusiast will always spot an M from 100m away! |

No not really.
I got an i8 as a loaner for the weekend, people went crazy seeing that car in downtown Amsterdam. Camera's flashing all the time. Some folks even tried to stop me just to take a picture, crazy. I was glad to get back in my M5, I do not need the attention.

That was just because they wanted to sell one to me. They might succeed, I really liked the i8!

I have a 2006 911 that I bought in 2008 from the original owner with 3,000 miles on it. It is Guards Red. Very bright color. The original owner lived in Milwaukee, WI and the exact reason he was selling it was because it was far too flashy in the Midwest. I also live in the Midwest. At the time, I thought what a silly comment; I like a flashy vehicle. Fast forward almost 6 years, and my Guards Red 911 sits in the garage 99.9% of the time. It is not a crazy 911 by any means (base Carrera), however, I do not feel comfortable driving it any longer as it is both admired by a few, and I perceive hated by most people that see it. Now in LA, Scottsdale, Miami, etc. a base red 911 would not draw any attention, however, if you live in a conservative city, I am over the flashy cars and unwanted attention. Hence the reason I like BMW's and specifically the M5. Connoisseurs know and appreciate M cars, everyone else thinks its a nice common luxury driver. |

I would get numerous comments when I drove my 997 C2S and I consider the M5 more unique.

The M5 is super low key. I had a 550 and my parents couldn't even tell I had a different car until I pointed it out.
I find a lot of ricers want to race me, which is super annoying, but I like putting them in their place every single time.

I get numerous commending comments from men of all ages /thumbs up almost daily.. when I bought it i wasn't really expecting it- however I must say that it does sometimes make my day.
Women I have noticed do give a stare once and a while, most are oblivious though.

I don't think it garners the attention unless it's to someone who knows cars......it looks the same as the 5 series with sport package.
I don't even think my M6 GC gets many looks because it looks like a 5 series and it's black (so it doesn't show off the CF roof like the other colors).....kinda of wish I had gone for a color other than black now because the CF roof is beautiful and rare and looks great with black rims

Interesting timing ......
i have jsut returned from "CARS AND COFFEE" here in Melbourne. when i arrived, the officals wanted to put me with all the other BM"S, then one offical said "No, put him over there with the EXOTICS..." (Porsche's, Ferrari's, and lambos were were in abundance....) When the first official (a woman, not that it matters) questioned as to why, the other said... "LOOK.... its an M5..... thats where he belongs......."" |

M5 attraction
I have read all of the posts here, and I must say that I got the right M car for myself. I wanted a stealthy looking car ( brute in the suit ) and that is exactly my M5.
Every time that I take it out it puts a huge smile on my face, mind you I'm the first owner since new and the car has only 5,000 kms, which means I don't drive it much.... well that is my toy .... Yes .... I did de-badge the M5 emblem. Why ? reason 1 I do like to have it in MY drawer and be able to look at it at times, but seriously I would hate if someone else would scratch my trunk lid just so that he could put it on his Nissan . I think that most of M5 owners bought the car for that subtle look. |

Attention in an odd way ... As at law said above not like my 911 either, but people sure give the M5 respect on the road. There was a newer mustang gt driving in a sporting manner that would not try to pass me a couple of weeks ago. Other cars have also given my M5 plenty of room; granted this is Omaha and not Scottsdale!
For me, it is the perfect amount of attention/respect. Dave |
