Spark Plugs and Coil pack replacement at 67k miles...
So I put a set of Coil Packs and Spark Plugs on Ms Claus' list.
Specifically https://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-F10-M5...ion/ES2763575/ this kit which was on sale before Christmas but doesn't appear to be now. Had them changed out today and the engine is silky smooth again...enough for even the wife to notice and comment when she drove it this afternoon. Car is at 67k miles and there was no oil on the bottom of any of the Coil Packs. Attached are some pictures of the spark plugs (including the worst one in higher detail). The engine definitely eats them as expected with the twin turbo setup. Plugs were previously changed as I recall at around 25k miles. Labor rate at my indy shop was ~$400 and it took them about 3 hours. Worst by far... No mods on car except carbon filter delete. Currently burn through 1-2 liters of oil between oil changes. |

Haven't replaced my packs but had my plugs upgraded around 20k, then 22k, then upgraded them at 30k to colder plug due to higher boost on my tune.
This is what I found at 22k hence why I upgraded twice lol I was having a stage 1 tune done and kept misfiring. Was baffled as I had new plugs done at the dealer under warranty and this is what we found.

Well, if we are going to leverage my East Tenn'see her'tage, then I'm actually gonna need a couple quarts of o'l and few less syllables in my post. For smaller quantities like "dab" "a little" or "some", use a "squirt" as in the example: "Put some squirts of oil on it and see if that frees it up." And for those that are not familiar with the correct pronunciation of oil in East Tennessee, it is the "o" sound of "or", drop the r and replace it with an l. There is absolutely no "schwa" or soft "i" sound. Oil will almost sound like "all" but it is too squashed of a sound for a true "a." It is not "Erl" or "oi-ill"...those are reserved for a different part of the country. And yes, it annoys my mid-Indiana born wife to death to hear me talk about o'l. Any issues with the colder plugs and can you share the part number or spec you are using now? Might it be something that could help others next time around to consider as an option on their next spark plug change? Did you make any gap adjustments as well? No codes were being captured/thrown on my side, just the occasional rough idle that I recall having back prior to the 25K mile change. The dealer didn't listen or pass the word along to the mechanic when they did the 25K change and they were disposed of before I got my car back. |
