I live in NE so if I want to work in the garage (or store things that shouldn't freeze), I needed heat. Since it is detached, it was either gas (modine, or similar) or radiant. It just so happened that the slab was insulated and since I had planned in tile from the start, adding electric radiant was trivial (I was going to need Schluter matting either way to eliminate sheering forces on the slab from effecting the tile, so adding the heating element wasn't a big lift).

Thus far, I've been impressed with the efficiency. Running it at 65 degrees is like having forced air at 72 as nearly the entire floor (3' in from all walls), creates/holds heat.
