How do you park your F10 M5?

Unfortunately, I got my second front bumper side scuff yesterday in a store parking lot. I just don't seem to get used to the car's dimensions coming from a smaller vehicle. My M5 does not have side view cameras. How do you guys park your M5s? Does turning on front parking sensors each time help?

I don't have the Drivers Assistance Package so I know what you mean. The most dangerous parking spots are the ones that are angled and with high curbs. Unfortunately the front parking sensors can't detect curbs low to the ground. I always turn on my front parking sensors every single time I front park. I find parking backwards much easier than parking frontways for some reason. The backup camera is essential. Just be more careful and always turn on the parking sensors every time.

Those cameras are invaluable. The Porsche only has the backup camera and sensors while with the DA I have the top view cameras which I find to be the most important for parking the M5. In the Porsche the lack of top view is OK because the car is narrower and shorter than the M5 so it fits easily into the parking spaces. I just have to be careful of the cement stops. If those are present and I can, I will back in with the Porsche but I don't back the M5 in because I have cameras.

I usually park far away and I try to avoid spots with high curbs.

Very carefully now! I recently parked in a spot that had a concrete parking stop which I thought was pretty low. I didn't see the piece of rebar that was sticking up which ripped a hole right in the plastic molding just below the bumper. At least it ripped that and not my bumper. I figured a RKP front lip would hide that, but then I would have to be even more careful about parking!!

This thing is a tank. My wife's GL is easier to park than my M5. I don't even bother taking it downtown or trying to park it in a garage.

I try my best to be very patient and take as much as time as I possibly can. If necessary, I even park half way and go out of the car to view it from outside to assess the parking space if I don't have my wife next to me to dispatch.

Thanks for all you comments. What a PIA. Especially when I see a Maserati parked next to me over the curb with no problems.

It won't matter if you have cameras or not. I tried to avoid hitting a curve in a tight spot by backing up and re- adjusting. I still tapped the curve scrapping the bottom right corner ofmy spoiler. But it does help especially if you have other toys in your garage like I do.

I'm always curious how these conversations would unfold if everyone were in person.

Can the mods please move this thread over to the M3/M4 side of the forum. The attitudes taken against one another here befits the M3/M4 crowd much better.

Gentlemen must be gentlemen on this side of the forum gents.

Lamborghini's have the front lift system to prevent bumper curb rash. Push a button and your ride rises ~2" to clear those curbs. I am sure you can look into retrofitting one.

You can't pull up to the curb anymore, just something to get used to.
I always stop short of the concrete parking slab or sidewalk.

Actually even with my lowered CP suspension, I could still fit over the concrete parking stop I've noticed, but I don't bother with it.

On my 458 and my M3 (because they are so low) if I try to pull up over anything I will literally smash into it head on -- so you learn quickly if you don't want damage.
My M3 will actually bottom out on speed bumps if I don't go really slowly and at an angle.
