"Painting" Wheels - PlastiDip spray

Has anyone heard of this stuff?
An Audi buddy of mine heard about it on the Audi board. Since I'm about to finally be able to take my snow tires / wheels off ( snowed last Friday ) so it would be a easy time to try it with the wheels off the Thriple black machine.

Any thoughts? What is the chance it could do something really bad?

I was thinking about a gloss black redo for the wheels, they seem to offer that option.

I've been reading about as well. I actually plasti dipped my front grills but took it off as I didn't like the matte finish. I found out you can buy the glossifier after I had already taken it off (which was easy to do). Give it a shot, it's simple to use and take off.

It's been around for years & years. One guy plastidip his entire Audi. Just googled and you will find it on Youtube for the entire process.

Mpres,

Did you paint the wheels with plasti dip? I'd like to see how they turned out. Got pics?

I want to do something to mine to get rid of the chrome face and I was thinking about Plastidip. It would be great if the dark grey dip matched the inside color of the rim so I could just paint the face but black would look good also.

Just did this to my Porsche. Very cool to be able to preview the look before making it permanent with paint/powder coat. Plastidip looks pretty good, but definitely not quality like you'd get from powder coating. Pretty amazing spray on stuff though and a fun project. The glossifier helps a lot in completing the look. The M5 wheels are pretty complex and have some tight spaces, so I would definitely recommend taking the wheels off the car to do it.

(I would post a pic, but our "new" Bimmerpost mobile client still doesn't support photo upload )
