coilover spring squeak.

I picked up my new m6 coupe this week and have noticed a faint squeaking sound when going over bumps. I remember reading threads r.e. rear coilover spring issues.

Those of you who experienced this issue: does this sound like the problem and how was it resoved?

Thanks!

New rear springs to be released in dec or early next year. Assuming there will be a recall.

My car does this. My shop foreman (who is a close friend) mentioned that a fix is coming for both the squeaking and the "thud" from the right rear that some other owners experience.

Mine squeaks (intermittently) at the front when traveling on rough/uneven road. I am now just waiting for the the Eibach Pro-Kit springs.

I'm surprised how readily people are giving up on active suspension. IMO it is one to the best features of the car. This issue is best worth waiting till the spring recall is issued.

Yup, have the clunk sound too. I have H&Rs in the box now, ready to be installed. Solves the issue apparently. I figured if my car is going under the knife, might as well install sport springs.

Excellent idea! If the dealer is going to disassemble the suspension anyway, why not have them do the swap for you? I wonder if the dealer might balk at not using "original" BMW parts? I suppose if you sign off on it there should be no problem.

Yeah, that's my thought, but I don't know if they'll go for it. We shall see...

A spring recall that you are hoping comes? Has anybody from BMW told you there is a recall coming? I had spent two months and probably 15 conversations going back and forth and only got denials that there is an issue from BMW. They would repeatedly tell me to have my service dept look at it. I saw that as a pointless. I have no interest in having the rear end of the car taken apart and reassembled only to have the problem still exist as others have done. If I had ever been told a recall was coming by BMW, I would have waited. No such luck. Just my two cents

It's not so much a squeak as it is a "clunking" sound. I'll be a bit disappointed if the H&Rs don't correct the issue, but not upset. We already get a lot of road noise transferred inside the cabin...

so from what I'm hearing from you guys (thanks for al the replys) the squeak is part of the known issue and will be addressed by the coilover spring update next year? Or is it just the hardcore clunk?

Kind of bugs me, $115k for a car that has, squeaky suspension, a crazy annoying squeak coming from the passenger door (anyone else have this) and crackling from my speakers.... I pretty much bleed blue and white but this sucks. Just feel lucky to have avoided the oil pump issue. Sorry for all you guys that had to swallow that too...

Replacing springs/coils might be questionable for warranty, at least it was in my case. I was one of the first people worldwide who discovered and alerted everyone on this problem as my car was taken upside down to pinpoint the problem and I, like many other owners, have waited for almost 1 year with this issue. So I'd advice you wait 1-2 months more than rush to buying other coils, which will cost you time and money anyway and possibly warranty issues depending on your local service.

I also have the annoying noise coming from the front door...sounds like the door is not fully sealed shut upon closing or the window is open by a nano. Just a slight whistling in my ears that is maddening. My SA suggestion is to let him drive it all day to see if he hears it. No thanks.

That has got to be the issue with air intake. Does the sound come when you engage full throttle in high gear? As if air is leaking, a whistle or a tweet. If so it's a known issue and your dealership would need to install a replacement part, don't know the exact word. Search on forum, some people (including myself) had this problem and got it fixed.
