Found this and it contradicts the 15-16 psi quote. Under WOT or heavy load, max boost is apparently 1.5 bar or 22psi (the magic number that requires JB4/BCM, same number a lot of tuners can't go passed).

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=842484

EDIT: the reason I brought this up was to see if we can read boost levels after a couple of runs on e-sys. Somehow when I submitted this post it didn't include the e-sys inquiry.

It depends...it's still tied to Absolute Manifold Pressure. It will run more or less under different demands and different atmospheric conditions. There are also a few different turbo/wastegate, fuel rail, fuel injector, exhaust manifold, valve covers, and 2 different DME Software Versions. Certain build dates have various combinations of these revisions which will show different mapping results. The most recent cars (1.16 and newer) are in a way a sort of unofficial S63TU1.

No - the DME has maps upto 22psi. The requested target (torque) can be anything upto that level... not requested in boost pressure, rather nm torque. The DME will provide upto 22psi to achieve the torque target. In most cases, the car can support 560-580hp with 15-17psi. When you get a flash, you target a high torque request, so that you pretty much request 22psi all the time.

The number is 22.7psi to be exact.

Great info, thx.

How are tuners getting more than 22psi w/o jb4/bcm?

1. Flash does MAP scaling but it is not 100% working well yet. The stock TMAP at the intake manifold is swapped to a 3.5bar one and the flash does some math to scale boost. To date it still uses the a ratio of the existing maps rather than creating a custom map for those values
2. JB4+BCM actually controls the wastegates directly to target any boost value. The DME believes it is at its max programmed value. You want to keep that delta small for fueling and other purposes

Actually, stock S63Tu's maximum pressure is 1.5 bar = 22psi.
Unless you are referring to normal boost, then yes around 18psi.

All modern bmw turbo cars, and, and almost any car maker adjusts boost based on temp, elevation and essential air density. It always strives to make target hp. On a cold day at sea level a stock car perhaps hits 14 max boost. A hot day at elevation a car may hit 18.

Jb4 stage 1 and similar Piffy backs tap into this window and therefore essentially will make a car see 18 boost even if its, cold and normally would be 15. A hot day you have less headroom
