M5 vs. Jeep Wrangler

Ha! Just kidding guys. I couldn't resist given the vigerous debate on the board lately about what cars are appropriate to compare head-to-head with the M5, and which comparisons are silly because they are a different class of vehicle.

Anyway, back to the point of this thread. On Saturday I picked up a weekend toy to tool around town with the family. As much as I enjoy driving the M5, I needed a covertable for the summers - plus it'll come in handy in the winter on the really heavy snow days. It's a 2014 Wrangler with the Willys Wheeler package. I went with Anvil for the color, which is similar to "battleship grey". The doors came off immediately, and the hard top comes off tomorrow once I get the hoist installed in the garage. My two boys (5 and 2 1/2 years old) think it's the coolest thing in the world!

Nice. Its a great counter to the M5. I have one as well and sometimes find it difficult to choose which to drive. You'll love this thing more and more as time goes. Enjoy. Let the modding begin. The options are endless.

Looks awesome! I'd paint mine Army Green, put a white star on the hood and doors, and mount a Ma Deuce on the top. I dare people to cut me off on the road.

Thanks, so far we're loving it. I'm starting out slow on the modding. The soft top and mirror relocation brackets were delivered today along with the hard top hoist. I'm about to order door sill guards and spacers to better fill the fenders.

Very nice! Love the Granite Crystal - that was my second choice after Anvil.

R u doing a leveling kit? I never noticed the slope until i took this pic. I also did Ace Rock Sliders, mainly as door steps.

Nope, not changing any suspension components at this time. Mostly cosmetic stuff until I live with it for a few months.

Love the color and you can't go wrong with a jeep. I'd take the doors off and leave them off the entire summer

Very cool - you've got me longing for another Jeep. Had an '85 CJ7 through college. I'm liking this Willys edition - and that's a great color. Congrats!

Cool Rig! I've owned 3 JKs in the past 4 years, I've regretted selling my last one, an orange crush 2Dr Rubicon. Hope to get back into another jeep in the near future.

Thanks. For some reason it shows a slight tint of green in pictures, even in the pictures on the Jeep website. It's a non-metallic grey - if you haven't seen it in person yet you should check it out.

Thanks. Doors are off and I don't plan to reinstall them until temps drop below 60 degrees on a regular basis!

Thanks. As soon as I saw a Willys in person I knew it was the model I wanted. In addition to the visible upgrades (wheels & tires, rock rails, etc.), it also has some upgraded drivetrain components to increase the off-road capabilities.

Thanks guys!
Best bang for the buck in my opinion - Im on Wrangler Forum a lot, and sounds like the Willys has its fair share of bashers from "traditional" Jeepers, whatever that means.

IM a big fan of what they did to it cosmetically, and I believe it has the Rubi suspension along with the Rubi wheels and rails. Or thats what I read performance suspension to be.

Agree on both points. Unless you're planning some serious off-road rock climbing, the Rubicon is overkill. I'm also not a fan of the Sahara line with the body-colored fenders.

It is definitely the Rubicon wheels, tires and rock rails. I'm not sure if the upgraded Performance Suspension on the Willys is the Rubicon suspension. But, the Willys does have an upgraded diff and rear axle for sure.

Nice choice. I'm 90 percent sold on one as second vehicle.
Did you go with manual or automatic?

6-speed manual. I wanted the better control, plus the auto is only a 5-speed.

By the way, for you Jeep guys that are still removing the hardtop by hand I highly recommend the Harken Hoister Lift System. It's a bit of a PITA to install, but once you do it makes removing and reinstalling the hardtop a quick one-man job. You can order it from Quadratec.com and it's only $130 (plus the cost of the 1x6 mounting boards and lag bolts you need to purchase separately).

Jeeps

Love those Jeeps, I have had different Jeeps over the years and my daily driver is a 2014 Unlimited Rubicon. My wife drives a 2014 Grand Cherokee SRT8 and she loves it.
