sounds good, so in that case, does unit works without any limitations???

Well, no - you are limiting it by disabling POP protection, but does this affect both K and Ka bands? The manual says turning on the traffic filter will disable POP on K, which I might be OK with.

I've had a V1 for 12 years and it's to the point now where it is almost useless due to the frequency of false alarms. Other cars' blind spot detection sets it off, I get numerous false laser warnings, etc. There are entire stretches of highway where it goes off non stop. Uggh.

I drove home today 24 miles. It went off once with X band in a location where it always goes off. I drove by a cop in town driving the opposite direction. No lights came on but it could be that he didnt have his radar on. Other than that, the reprogramming has stopped the K band from constantly going off. I am waiting to see if Ka and K band come on like they always did.

Disabling POP should not interfer with the ability of the V1 to pick up all of the 'normal' bands used for radar. At least that is my understanding.
Bish

PS: does anyone have the link to hard-wiring the V1 to the sunroof area in the new 5 series cars? Must get that done ASAP.

Tape over the rear sensor?

I'm having same problem with the Valentine. This has rendered the Valentine useless for me as it always goes off.

I'm in NJ and police use all radar here including K, Ka and X so disabling any will definitely leave me exposed.

What about putting some black electrical tape on the rearward sensor to stop the false alarms? Do you think that would work?

I guess this is a question of what is safer/better? Kill the rearward facing detector or disabling POP completely?

Thoughts?

The sensor uses radar; tape will have no effect. Either turn off POP or pull the fuse.

Gotcha. Is there a dedicated fuse for the lane change sensor or does pulling that fuse kill other features too?

was there an actual fix to this issue? it looked like there was resolution based on the thread but no fix.
the V1 manual has no description of turning off POP and disabling K or X is not an option in MA.

thanks

Does anyone know if there is a single fuse to disable the lane change or is it coupled with other systems/features that will also get disabled? Any info or instructions on what fuse to pull is most appreciated as I could not find any info on this anywhere

Yes, I called the company and reprogrammed to disable the "pop" function. No issues since

I really dont' wan to disable POP because in NJ they use K band all the time. Disabling it would make the detector useless around here. They use K, KA and laser in these parts

I understand. Those sneaky bastards are bad. I remember driving to AC 3 years ago and X band was blaring and didn't phase me cause you know, thats usually a store or a bank alarm. Well sure enough, it was NJSP. Luckily I was driving normal.

I think the best thing to do is call the Valentine yourself. They were really nice and helpful. Do it when you are nearby your radar and it is powered. Good luck.

I emailed Valentine back in November, They said the following:

Hi,

Pop is a feature on a radar gun that allows the operator to transmit very short duration pulses. Please click on the following link for more information:
http://www.valentine1.com/pop/whatispop.asp

Unfortunately, the signal generated by blind spot detection systems imitate POP radar. If your V1 is over a year old, I suggest disabling V1's POP detection feature in order to minimize the problem. If your V1 is less than a year old, I would suggest activating the Traffic Monitor Filter. Please click on the following link for more information on programming:
http://www.valentine1.com/Lab/techreport3.asp

Thanks,

Michael Negussu

Then I replied that I did have the newest version and he replied:

Hi,

Yes, leave POP on.

Activating the Traffic Monitor Filter (TMF) automatically disables K-band POP detection. TMF is a better option since disabling POP cancels both K-band POP and Ka-band POP.

Thanks,

Michael Negussu

That's the way mine is set and I haven't had any false signals since.

This is the solution everyone:
-> Enable TMF (Traffic Monitoring Filter) which disables POP, but only on K band.

This is what you need to know:
-> TMF is only on V1's less than one year old. If yours is greater than one year old, you should send your unit into V1 for the upgrade, or order a new V1.

FYI: If you send your V1 back to Valentine for an internal update (or just order a new one for full price), your V1 will no longer constantly false on the highways.

in that case, using the unit in NJ will be half way useless since cops use K band a lot here... Is that right or am i missing something?

I had this problem with my Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. I called Valentine and followed their instructions to solve the problem. THe result was getting pulled over three times within two weeks because the sensitivity was reduced so much.

Needless to say I ordered my M5 without the "Driver Assistance Package" so I have no issues with false readings and everything works perfectly.

Can't stand that lane departure crap anyway. That's what eyes and mirrors are for.

Anyone on this forum get their equipment from Craig @ Radartest.com? Got my BEL Sti and the laser "Blinder" setup from him. Getting the full stealth install this week with the notifications set up in the rearview mirror.
